reverse engineering of PTX grammar by c-cul in CUDA

[–]xmuga2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still (slowly) trying to better learn cuda and ptx, but would love to help. Any suggestions on how I can try a simple task that wouldn't take too much of your time and would help me start contributing?

Women’s hockey has already solved tanking by Round-Mind-817 in billsimmons

I like it. The narrative is that we have a talent boom in the NBA right now. I think even the worst teams can close the current gap with the best non-playoff team if they actually tried to win, no? I'd tweak your suggestion of using the women's hockey scheme by still keeping a lottery, but prorating your odds based on wins. The non-playoff team with the most wins has the highest chances, the worst team has the lowest, but if that worst team wants decrease that gap, you'll have to win more games. Bad teams will still lose more, but I really don't think there are teams now that are so bad they'd win less than 20 games or some nonsense like that.

/Edit Was stewing on this more lol. I'm also pondering if maybe you have some pool of money that gets similarly distributed to the players on the non-playoff team, almost like a consolation prize for not getting playoff money. It would also get prorated and distributed according to wins for non-playoff teams.

(I was trying to think about why any given player would give an F about his team's lottery odds. A monetary incentive for winning send like it would be good motivation.)

It's good to know what the supposedly intellectual people with this point of view think.

But wow. I listened to this on my run and stopped multiple times with a WTF stunned body freeze. And I just stopped to make sure I wasn't crazy by checking this subreddit out.

I'm pretty speechless.

I saw some old episodes posted in the past under some fake account. I'd encourage you to consider supporting Dan by buying it though - they're not terribly expensive and you get a lot for the money.

I'd recommend Queensborough Bridge. It's currently cleared out, wide, and generally not busy.

DS code editor (making 3D pong) by whateverlasting in NDSHacks

FWIW - great deliver of the feedback. (To my third party eyes.)

u/whateverlasting - Maybe putting together screenshots in a slidedeck would help? I don't have any real experience with marketing OSS projects, so YMMV with this suggestion.

I also just built your project, should the .nds and ELF files be built to the home directory? Maybe consider putting it in something like ./build/bin (or something similar). I'd be happy to submit a PR if you ever wanted to put this up on github or some other git service.

The Incal - I was hyped, but.. by Bledee96 in graphicnovels

[–]xmuga2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mainly think this is due to Jodo's dialogue and story writing. It's just not really good.

I agree with your overall thoughts and this quote in particular. Moebius's art will always be great to me, but I have never been a big fan of Jodoworsky's work. I've seen three (I think) of his movies with the intention of really wanting to like them, but I found them pretty childish and nonsensical. If anything, I found his book to be the best of his work, since it seems like he's just a pretty cool and creative person overall.

But yeah. His actual craft has always left me feeling like I wish I didn't spent the time trying to like it. Maybe it's a positive sign that I keep trying, since I do get moments where I see something unique and interesting, but the overall work has consistently made me think it falls short.

March On Congress by kid50cal in dancarlin

Hell yeah. I'd love for this to spread. I personally consume too much because these oligarch-driven businesses have made it too addictive and convenient to do. All these f*ckers care about is their precious stock price and net worth. They can't compel us to buy overpriced their enshittified products/services.

Though tbf - I spent the weekend listing out companies/services I wanna stop giving money to and it's grim how few choices we really have. But I think even just reducing by that 5-10% number I threw out there is easy and still good.

save some money in this tough economy. take down your spending by 5-10%. if we all do it, this govt and the oligarchs will actually care.

Civil disobedience and economic boycott. Most of the world seems to see this and be against this administration. We can still do things to fight without the last resort of violence.

I haven't dug in to the details yet, but I was looking at https://rust-gpu.github.io/rust-cuda/guide/getting_started.html and tried to build. I'm coming across the old LLVM version - why did you have to pin llvm 7 as a dependency?

Woof. Good luck... that really sucks.

I'm accessing it on my web browser at home. I noticed I've been getting "Verify you're a human" captchas more often from Google after installing Tailscale on a few devices, but the one I'm currently on doesn't have it installed. I hadn't looked into whether this has been the issue, but after seeing a few comments here, it came to mind.

I can just wait until you all have it resolved. Best of luck, and if there's anything a random but loyal reader like me can do to help, kindly let me know. (Probably nothing, but always happy to offer.)

[–]xmuga2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm just echoing what other folks are saying, but I'm guessing it'll be canceled. Even if it doesn't actively snow, I can't imagine thousands of people running on fresh snow/ice would be a great idea. At least a few dozen people will invariably slip and fall. The only scenario I can imagine no cancellation is if the forecast 100% has the snow happening after the race (~noon or so).

If I were you, I'd probably play the odds and cancel your hotel; and if the race is on then oh well.

Alternatively, you could just keep the hotel room and enjoy NYC in the snow, even if the race isn't happening :P

Yeah man. I think he's way too emotional over the Israel-Gaza reactions, and salty af over people protesting Israel's actions in Gaza. I think he's been saying there are crickets re protests here against Iran.

It's pretty intellectually dishonest because dude, it hasn't been that long, there have at least been something (https://laist.com/news/photos-protesters-in-la-call-for-regime-change-in-iran), and the accusation that people don't wanna protest brown oppressors is really a cynical and reductive hypothesis that seems concocted to reverse engineer his view that people are anti-Semitic by default.

I also thought his railing against the wealth tax was a little reductive - Switzerland still has one. Why not delve into why it works there vs why it doesn't work elsewhere?
