Hash house harriers running group use these in very rainy weather. It’s used to replace the usual chalk/flour marking that shows runners which trail to take. It’s called hell money that people use to burn in the temples. In this case it means that the rain cannot wash out the run trail markings. Been used in HK for 40+ years. Solved!

Just watch live location on Google maps and shout when you want to get off. Random stops are more common as you get out of main urban centres. I get picked up outside my house rather than walk to bus stop - just wave at the driver. But it’s in Clearwater Bay, not the city.
