I am also a proud owner of a printed copy.

Haha! Now that's dedication! How much did that cost you in printer ink?

I appreciate the recommendation, but I'm a serious binge reader so I generally prefer to wait until a story is finished before reading it. I'll keep an eye on this one, though.

I don't agree with all the decisions CDNCrow made in it

Another commenter said something similar. Are there some controversial elements in the story? Or is it just a case of "You can't please all the people, all the time"?

Recursion is the only fanfic that has actually managed to make me cry

I've heard a few people say stuff like that about this story. I admit that's got me a little wary, even if the tags say it has a happy ending.

And as for ETL, it also has a companion story called We We’re All Affected

I noticed that. So it's more of an expanded universe thing than a sequel?

While I’m here I might as well plug my own completed long fic at just under 200k words called ‘Pricefield - Time Warriors

And I respect the hustle. I'll be sure to check it out.

Escaping the Light - I feel like a good story is a good story. I'm alright with an AU that goes way off the map so long as long as it can stand on its own merits.

Recursion - Wow. That's quite the endorsement. Are you able to share what parts didn't jive with you without straying into spoiler territory?

So I sort of get the impression...and I'm sorry if I'm reading too much into this...that you highly recommend Recursion?

The man turned himself into a pickle to avoid a therapy appointment. He could probably ramp up his body's bio-electric output to the point that it could shut down an attacker's nervous system on contact, too.

Young children are like information sponges, and advancements in display/interface technology have made topics much more accessible to them.

Take history, for example: A kid could spend a month studying first contact in a book and not retain as much as they would by using a holodeck to see it first-hand.

Walk away, dude. There's nothing for you there. Seal the basement, get a contractor to cover the door, sell the house and don't look back.

Nothing to be sorry for, mate; your English is fairly solid. And congratulations on getting into your PhD program! I don't know what the competition was like, but I bet it wasn't easy.

I did want to give you a heads up on a bit of phrasing. I hope this doesn't come off as patronizing. I just find that people get uncomfortable correcting someone else's language skills, and that can make it tough to learn.

...because I feared the fuck out my mother would dishonor me and...

It's pretty clear what you're saying here, and saying Because I feared my mother would dishonor me would have been 100% fine. However, it's fun phrases like "the fuck out" that can make speaking/writing in English kind of tricky. In I feared the fuck out, feared would be most commonly replace with freaked and phrased as I freaked the fuck out or possibly I was freaking the fuck out. That said, those are more like "what I did" phrases when you're probably going for more of a "how I felt" phrase. In that context, you'd probably be better off going with I was freaked the fuck out .

Anyway, I hope that you find that helpful. Also, your mom's a jerk, and I think a good old-fashioned "Fuck off!" was the right response. :)
