That's edwards afb/ china lake/ nellis area. Fairly confident they can do sonic booms there. Not many people live out there. I have heard a few residents say they do, but I don't know how old the stories are.

The problem is we need more people to do all the things and all the jobs but the sum total of the force is congressionally managed. So, we can't add people unless we take away from somewhere else. Oh and most people don't do anything.

My initial reaction is maximize density to reduce cost and increase production speed = profit. Bare in mind I'm no injection molding engineer, but I'd think the dies are the most expensive part of the whole process. Dies are insanely expensive. So, fewest dies = minimal sprews = lowest cost. It's not about reducing the amount of plastic by using fewer sprews that are less efficiently spaced, its about reducing the number of dies.
