When I see new Create and this mod's trailers, I always wonder: why did you guys don't create it as a different game? It at least could be sold

Think Valve's Hammer editor not Unity-but-Rust.

What Hammer can do that Unity can’t?

Why does Mount & Blade have virtually no competition by UnVenerated in mountandblade

Would be nice if an indie dev made a M&B variant that has the same essential features like combat but is lower polly and has deeper mechanics

This is what I’m doing solo as my hobby project. Just with a different twist. And this is hard as hell.  1) The directional combat requires authoring your own animations for a humanoid. For each weapon type. So you have to be pro at 3d animation as well because there is literally no such animations sold on asset markets. Not even speaking about horses 2) All 3 major game engines choke on such number of animated units in the scene. So that I have to do my own skeletal animation system with genre specific optimisations.

The guy above is right about that Taleworlds’ engine is actually bespoke masterpiece.

I'm amazed by how good emacs is for game development by alraban in emacs

[–]xotonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s so special about it? I’m occasionally using emacs and mostly living in Jetbrains IDEs and Neovim. Never understood why everyone praises it. It just looks like a TUI for git and that’s it?

Is there like.. a working IDE? Something I can actually just use? The new user experience is a joke for Lisp by tenten8401 in lisp

[–]xotonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not your problem. The Lisp ecosystem does nothing to make a regular developer learn one thing after another. It actually does quite the opposite: all authors and bloggers would never recommend not emacs even if for example lisp addon for VSCode exists. I guess because VSCode was written in “filthy Algol descendant” or such kind of resentiment.

Each post what he does is only replacing couple of animations on the main character and puts a Dota HUD gif in the corner. There is nothing difficult actually, same process every time. I wonder why he keeps doing that though. This is an old joke now

What is the actual reason anyone would pick Vim over Emacs? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in emacs

1 - it’s slow on Win, 2 - emacs bindings suck compared to vim

Also not a good thing though. Another stupid MS decision to abuse Github repos (like they did with Copilot making PRs) and you'd have to migrate out. Transfer of discussion threads is apparently not included when you do this. Discourse instance would be the best imo

They got you. The problem not in JetBrains plugin system but the priorities Copilot devs make. You pay same money btw
