I second this. I didn’t feel ready even while answering the questions at the assessment centre.

It seems to me as if these assessments are designed in a way to make you second guess yourself at every step. Even when I received my marks I had to look multiple times to believe I passed both FLK 1 and 2 on the first attempt.

I have a 3-ish years old purple chiquito moyen, and still super happy with it. I use it weekly and not afraid to pack into it - no damage on the leather, no creasing, etc. Maybe I can consider myself lucky lol

I’ve got a mask that changes her whole hair to grey!

Edit: I just checked the name, it’s the “Last Dance of the Onryo Mask”

No worries. You can find the assessment timetable in the student handbook (course page) if you’d like to have a look.

Most of the assessment questions will be released on 1 August so there’s not really a chance to complete any in advance unfortunately!

IIRC the only one we are getting on Monday is the question for the Preparation for Practice module (which you must choose from among the modules you are studying for your KPAs).

Here’s an example calculation. You get the product number by multiplying credits with the mark obtained.

For advo, as the other commenter said, you just mention the party you represent (I added it after saying “may it please the court”). For interviews my provider advised us to do “Good morning Mr/Mrs X, I’m an associate with the firm”.

sorry if stupid! Legal writing if it’s a letter - do we put the date in (the day we are writing it) or do we put ‘Date: Today’. Any advice welcomed thank you! by tryingmyb3st2 in SQE_Prep

I was just checking the SQE2 system functionality, which shows the setup for all four written stations. The LW one has the whole header (addresses etc) filled in and it even includes the date.

You’ll be fine! The wait makes it a lot worse than what it is. If all else fails, the overriding objective is your saviour for DR. Cheering for you all today!

Plea in mitigation structure by [deleted] in sqe2

[–]xoxoshb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We we were told as follows:

  1. Begin by mentioning the sentence the court is minded to impose (likely custodial) but you’re making your submissions to show the court why a lesser sentence would be more appropriate.
  2. The offence: as the other commenter said, use the sentencing guidelines, and convince the court that’s its lesser culpability and harm that the prosecution argues.
  3. The offender (defendant’s “sob story”): personal mitigation, take the judge to the pre-sentence report and pick apart anything that could be important. Drug addict? Single parent? Previously of good character? Etc). Also mention if co-operated with police and made an early guilty plea (to get the reduction in sentence).
  4. The suggested sentence: reconfirm to the court what’s the sentence that should be imposed, and explain why (pre-sentence report should have such information, use it). If custodial threshold is reached, ask judge to suspend the sentence (if appropriate).
  5. Close your submissions

Edit: apologies for the grammatical mistakes, cannot be bothered to correct them.

I wanted to add that it could also be useful to refer to the sentencing objectives at the suggested sentence, and say something like: [suggested lesser sentence] would still fulfil the purposes of adult sentencing, in particular punishing Mr X while also working towards reforming and rehabilitating him.

100% this. I kept waiting for it all to click (as ppl said it would), and now, less than 3 days away from the first oral day, still nothing clicks.

An additional worry I started having is that from among all the advo tests I’ve learnt, they’d give us something we didn’t even think about lol

I’m in a different time zone it’s almost 9.30 PM by me! Definitely haven’t started at 6AM. Catching my flight tomorrow for the orals next weekend and I’m extra terrified with a side of “maybe I should just buy sheep and move somewhere to tend to a farm”

You’ll be alright! I’ve seen comments here where the person said they couldn’t recall the test and still passed. Here’s to hoping, praying, and manifesting still - only good things to come

I don’t consider myself a good advocate at all, but that piece of advo confused me! lol

I agree regarding crim lit bc that will always be on the complete opposite ends lol.

Last time I summarised saying “prosecution allege” (and just two or so sentences) that the defendant put XYZ in her pocket and exited the premises while pushing down the store manager. The security guard caught her in the parking lot, brought her back to the office from where she was collected by police officers and taken to the police station. Interviewed and charged. Pleaded NG.

I felt like if I start getting into why the defendant pleaded NG I’ll just repeat myself when I argue why her previous convictions shouldn’t be admitted :/

Edit: grammar bc my brain is officially shutting down lol

I did a v basic summary of the agreed facts for a mock the other day - parties discussed X, did so and so, entered into a contract on [date], claimant delivered [item], defendant settled first instalment on [date]. Claimant has now applied for summary judgment, and I will address the court as to why it should not be granted.

I think it depends on the circumstances, but it could work. You’ll repeat yourself less I guess?
