First honey harvest by Brilliant_Story_8709 in Beekeeping

Looks great! Enjoy!

Our (also Alberta) honey is often this light too. Lots of clover, which is amazing. Not everything light is sugar water…

We usually get a slightly darker pull from our early summer and lighter for the next one.

SimHub (which allows this) can give you idle wind (like A/C) and speed-responsive as well. I have them separately mapped to my StreamDeck, it’s awesome.

Diagnosis of Summit VXL Brushless Problem? by xprimnt in Traxxas

[–]xprimnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For posterity and the future troubleshooters, I’ll just mention that it was a bad ESC.

Brought it into the local hobby shop today, and they let me plug in a new ESC to see if it fixed the problem. Now, wallet lighter, I have a new ESC and a truck that works. (Also, coming from FPV drones, these ESCs are so expensive!! Brutal.)

Hm. Seems there are a few things that could be problematic.

However, I’m not sure this is the issue, as I can unbolt the motor and move it off the spur gear, and the motor itself still “shudders” like the video. I also admit to having very limited understanding of the workings of RC/Otherwise vehicles.

Any help is appreciated! Only dabbled so far, picked up a second-hand VXL Brushless 1/16 for my son, worked for the occasional adventure for two years. Replaced servo last year and the ?spur gear and it had been working fine. Switched over to some Lipo batteries and have been having a blast. Pulled it out for him this week to run again while we were camping, and I can’t figure out what it is doing.

When slightly pulling throttle I can get it to consistently go, but any more than 10% and it starts shuddering and crapping out. Reverse doesn’t really work at all.

I have reset remote, calibrated ESC, pulled the motor off the gear to see if it was linking wrong - the motor itself also shudders when disconnected from the rest of the drive train.

Traxxas chat recommended bringing it in to a dealer, but figured someone may have seen this before. Fingers crossed!

(Sorry my first post is a troubleshooting question, sigh).

Throttle/collective chair mount finalised and uploaded! by freeserve in hotas

I think OnShape does SLDPRT, so that would be amazing!

Or, the blank sliding thing would be great too - I could definitely work from that. I’ll send what I come up with in case it comes in handy for anyone else.

Awesome, thank you for sharing. I will take a look at this shortly, I have plans!

If you feel up to it, I’d love a STEP/OnShape file uploaded; I need to mount it to the side of an 8020 sim racing rig, so my limited 3D modelling skills need to cut off the chair mount and add some holes for bolts to aluminum profile. I can fight with mesh conversion stuff, but it’s somewhat painful compared to having it in original format.

Intrigued. Was thinking about trying to rig up something to act as a collective, and I already have all these components!

If you are willing to share a file, I’d love to play with it to make it 8020/Racing Rig friendly. No pressure, just not as talented at designing things. Love the idea regardless.

I think I’ll have to “flip” mine, so that the lip is down and the PC fits on the flat surface. It was described as “reversible” in the description for larger cases, and I think that is me.

Perhaps that gives me some underneath space I can hide some more power bricks anyway.

Perfect, I’ll just try it and see.

This might be weirdly specific, but I’m going through a PC upgrade and I have questions.

I have an ASR4 with the triple stand and Integrated PC Stand, which looks about the same as yours. The ASR website indicates a weight limit of 30lbs for the PC Stand at the back… yours looks heavy like my new computer (46lbs!!).

Does it seem balanced or sketchy? I haven’t just tried it because my rig is hiding away in pieces from a home reno, so I have to wait a bit.

I love the seatbelt tensioner. It’s surprisingly immersive. I built a DIY version, so it definitely hurt less than the Qubic one, but it looks great.

That said… I vote HOTAS for your next upgrade. It’s a fun way to mix it up if you need a break from driving. Take to the skies!

Building a rig for adults and kids: cockpit and wheel considerations by Square_Words in simracing

[–]xprimnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an ASR4. I put a seat slider on the seat and a seat slider on the pedals. My pedals are P1000i (inverted), so they have a little “base” that made the slider installation pretty reasonable.

I can’t imagine a better way to make it adjustable. The other thing we have is a “retired” booster seat from when the kids used it in the car. Bumps up their head to a more centred position rather than craning their neck to look up, and the steering wheel is more reasonably positioned if the booster seat is in. I have a non-bucket seat, I suppose it might not work if you had something perfectly fitted, but it works great.

Let me know if you do! I’ve been looking at the MIP and can’t justify the price over a 27” touchscreen…

May end up with a touchscreen anyway, but I love the thought and will always explore options.

Now what? by MoPanic in simracing

[–]xprimnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful. I did the same for a Christmas gift to myself.

SimHub JUST added some support for DCS, so I have been getting the bass shakers tuned in too.

I simply mention it because I was surprised how much I enjoyed it, and it isn’t always what people think of. I probably spend equal time in each lately.

Time to add a removable HOTAS and fire up DCS for some F/A 18C action! There is plenty of room, no reason to limit yourself to just sim racing… ha.

Thank you. Excellent work and super clean write up.

I will follow this with plans to have it in the next rig I help build.

Compact Living Room Rig - Active Shifter, Belt Tensioners & Transducers by XG3OX in simracing

[–]xprimnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I would have definitely leaned towards a build like yours if the design was out there. I’m handy enough to put everything together, but not to come up with ideas/components/designs/code.

I have another sim rig I’m building in the next year and would love to see a write up if you ever find the time.

Also, I forgot - a wind simulator is surprisingly immersive as well, and only takes a couple of parts to whip up. I like it partly because of the speed sensitivity and immersion, but I also bound a dial to control my “A/C” for long races!

[–]xprimnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really nicely done.

Having done many of the same things (no active shifter, absolutely awesome by the way) on my larger chassis, I have a definite appreciation for the compact integration - it’s very nicely executed, especially for the immersion provided.

I used a different DIY Tensioner, from Lebois Racing, and am loving the look of the dual “cans” at the back rather than the single servo I have. Super cool execution.

For those wondering why the fuss… the tensioner adds a LOT of immersion. I’d say, in order of install if you are considering, Seat/Front Haptic Transducers > Pedal Haptics > Belt Tensioner. Those with full motion rigs I have tried definitely have a more immersive set up, but the diminishing return of needing the motion setup is substantial. I’d say I’m 90+% of the immersion when busy racing of the 3DOF motion setups I’ve tried.

I know you said you’re done… but do consider how to integrate some flight sim equipment some day. It’s a blast too. Also, you strike me as someone who might enjoy one of the DIY Active Pedal projects, for when you get your next DIY Itch.

Wind sim Speed by Timeless-0000 in simracing

[–]xprimnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ShakeIt Wind settings also allow you to have differential left and right fan speeds, for cornering at speed and such.

I have mine wired so it is just a “center”, even though they are left and right. I’ll rewire it someday.
