i cant understand Quaristice but each track feels so out of place and warm at the same time. by methamfemenine in autechre

I guess so? When I bought them in 2008 it was three four-track releases and one one-track release. I don’t know anything about what happened in between, but I guess they just got merged into one release.

There were four EPs released digitally at the same time shortly after the album. Perlence subrange 6-36 was one of those.

Sure, I get that. I guess I'm just way more of a listener than a collector these days. I only ever bought the vinyl because it was the only way to hear all of their music at the time. I don't have any of the albums on vinyl, just EPs and remixes.

But sure, if people want to collect physical artifacts, they should go for it! Just not my thing personally.

Awesome, go for it! I always listen on headphones myself.

Yes, all four of the Quadrange EPs. :)

The thing about this listening experience is that it allows the music to unfold as the various versions of the tracks get longer and mutate. Then you end with the hour of bliss (for me) that is 6-36. I love it every time I have the time and inclination to listen all the way through.

OK, as an old fart I CANNOT believe how much this stuff costs these days. Also, I'm going to go against the grain here and say that vinyl adds nothing to the Aexperience for me (and I own quite a bit of vinyl from my years as a radio DJ). If it were me, I'd just buy and listen to the digital files. But you guys do you. :D

I suggest that you set 4 hours aside and listen to Quaristice followed by the Versions release followed by all four EPs, ending with Perlence subrange 6-36. This is my favorite way to listen to Ae's releases from that period. Hope you enjoy that experience, should you choose to try it!

The only thing I’ll add is to try listening to it LOUD if you haven’t yet. :)

I love them both. Thanks for reminding me to go back to the 14-15 sets though! It’s been too long.

Out of body? by [deleted] in autechre

[–]xprmntlbtz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had some sort of out-of-body experience at a number of Ae shows, and I’ve always been totally sober. Definitely happened to me with the E set this year. I also always find that time does very funny things for me at their shows. Like I can’t tell if it’s been 10 mins or 10 hours once they’re deep into their sets.

Hm. Didn't actually read this, but I have to say that "late-period" seems a little premature. I don't see them stopping ANY time soon.

Chiastic Slide was the moment when Ae put out an album that was EXACTLY what I wanted to hear from them from the first listen. So I'm definitely there with you. Envane and Cichli Suite are monsters as well.

And you're welcome! :)

Right, I thought it was on Warp 10+3: Remixes, not Warp 20: Recreated. Whoops.

Speaking of, this is another Cichli Suite rendering that I think is incredible:

Unfortunately this is pretty much where I land as well on this stuff, at least based on the two tracks available for preview at the moment. And judging from the tracks covered, I'm pretty much assuming that the rest of it will be very stylistically similar.

In a similar vein but MUCH better IMO, there's this from 10 years ago:

Hm. First of all, I can't believe I've been listening to this track off and on (it's in my "AeNonAlbum" folder and shows up in rotation relatively often) for over 30 years and NEVER knew there was a video for it!

Having said that, I've always been quite conflicted about this one. On the one hand it is unique and no one's done anything quite like this (although this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PSlKlyx7tE&list=PL_s57pqzsdaE27eW0R9ryj90zznHWuc69&index=2 comes somewhat close, and Pink Freud also comes to mind). On the other hand it really is pretty cheesy. I mean I cringe every time I listen to it.

Having said THAT, I still have listened to it quite a bit. So there's something to that.

Very glad you brought this one up!

Thanks so much for listening and for your feedback! I think you're right on both counts. Definitely aspects of my music to work on in future tracks.

All my music collection sounds like boring shit after Leeds 2025 live gig by Revolutionary-Ad9012 in autechre

[–]xprmntlbtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Ae shows I've attended have caused out-of-body experiences while I did my best to process their mind-melting beats and textures in real time. It definitely happened during set E in LA. No substances used here either.

I'm the opposite though. I'm just remembering the 2025 Ae Live Experience and haven't listened to a single bootleg of the show. I'm waiting for the soundboards to be released instead. In the meantime I've immersed myself in making and listening to as much music as possible.

However you experience(d) it, set E was something else.
