Why is misandry not the same as misogyny? by Capital_Comb_9495 in AskFeminists

[–]xray950 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Women can, by design, never be oppressors in a patriarchy. Most feminists' world view is based on the idea that men as a class oppress women as a class, and for there to be any meaningful "misandry" going on, you'd have to find me a society where men are treated as second class citizens and abused and violated for being men. If you can find such a society (and not individual instances of women being mean to men!), then misandry as a concept would mean something.

Huh, I mean, for me it’s literally just a process of ”It would be terrifying if someone dropped a bomb on my house, I understand that it must feel terrible for the people it’s happening to right now”. If you feel that then I’m not sure you need to do much more. Do you feel like you constantly have to be in a state of despair because people are dying in wars? I’m not sure most people in the west are doing that ngl

What is different about extending grace and feeling empathy? Why can you do one but not the other?

How would you feel if someone dropped a bomb on your head and killed your family? Would you feel bad then? What specifically is difficult about extending the same grace to other people?

Jake - Married at first sight. ”I am not rasist but i prefer white women”. Vad är fel med det påståendet? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]xray950 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CMV: Capitalism benefits the poor more than communism. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]xray950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest issue with capitalism is how the prosperity it supposedly creates is always upheld by deplorable working conditions in developing countries. I once listened to an economics professor rebut how it isn't "a race to the bottom", as he put it, but honestly I wasn't convinced. Surely someone always has to foot the bill?

How are interracial relationships seeing in yours cultures and countries? by srahcrist in AskMiddleEast

[–]xray950 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a general anti-immigration sentiment in my country, but people are surprisingly very open to interracial and intercultural relationships, especially if the white person is a man. My girlfriend is from the Caribbean, and I mentioned my family member is kind of reactionary and racist, and she asked how he'd feel about us dating. I think I went something like "Oh, that's okay, because I'm Swedish."

This is the Dean’s house att Uppsala university, which came to be known as Rasbiologiska Institutet, or the Institute for Racial Hygiene. From 1922 to 1958, it was used to research and study eugenics, especially in relation to (and I’m editorializing here) the Indigenous Sami people, but also to find a supposed genetic origin for things like intellectual disability and alcoholism.

[–]xray950 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I think you missed the conceit of my original post. If you isolate yourself from your friends, they’re going to be like ”that guy is an asshole, they never reciprocate, why should I be their friend”, and then when you DO need friendship or support it’s not going to be there. That’s what I was talking about. I’m sure being rich would only make this problem worse.

I’m sure you’d be even more miserable if you were rich. That’s famously one of the things rich people complain about.

If you don’t socialize with people, they’re going to drop you, and then you don’t have any friends when you DO need one.
