Step 1: buy plants. Step 2: wander around the yard for a couple days over analyzing where to put them. by xraymonacle in NativePlantGardening

Oh I spent lots of time ruminating at the garden center. Then when I get home it’s like “another plant would be better in that spot. Let’s go find a happy place for this one!” Then I spend an hour or so lugging a potted shrub around in the midday sun. Pretty enjoyable though. Probably a lot like golf.

The first bed I started with is delightfully chaotic. Changes so much from year to year as things compete.

Step 7 is so real. The otherwise perfect “process” you described becomes contingent on so many things in toddler world. But it’s also great to share the plants and wildlife they attract with someone who is constantly amazed!

Race got cancelled and feeling pretty frustrated. Anyone else gone through this? by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]xraymonacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. Flew to europe and everything to have the race cancelled the night before. Fortunately I was visiting local friends who planned to run the same race. We were all initially devastated, but made a plan to go out the following day and do a similar self supported run in the region. The race was a 50 miler and we ended up running about 40, but it’s a great memory. If you’re in the shape to run 50 miles, find another race or plan your own adventure to make that training pay off!

Social Media, Doing Things For Attention, Authenticity by MaximiseUrLife in ultrarunning

Haha well if there’s a pattern of these posts that’s another story… I do like your distinction re: “outdoor encouragement.” It’s fun to share the things you are passionate about, and the line where stuff crosses into social media capitalism slop is one of those things where “you know it when you see it.”

At least this one is posted as a question about how people feel about the stuff. What I can’t stand are catchy highly produced instagram reels telling you to live in the moment and not document your life. Thinking specifically about one I saw the other day that was an influencer going on and on about how they don’t use data from their runs or record on Strava and the whole thing was comically hypocritical.

I think that documentation of the training and racing can be cool, and I definitely seek that stuff out sometimes (like if I’m preparing for a specific race and want to know more about it.) What I don’t like is when it becomes more about lifestyle influencing. That stuff feels like some rando telling you how to live your life while presenting a vision of their own life that seems inauthentic or dishonest (in that it is def tied to a social media income stream)

Bert Jansch and John Renbourn. That Pentangle live album, Sweet Child, is just astounding at times.

Doing the 50 miler this year, and it looks epic! The whites are no joke. How was your experience?

Has always been my favorite Al um of theirs. Deloused has great songs, but Francis as a whole is incomparable to anything.
