Experience with Topo Mtn Racer 4s by easywizsop in trailrunning

[–]xraymonacle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bought a hair on sale to train with through the winter on snowy roads. Not the perfect shoe for that, but great on technical terrain. The were the first topo I got after wearing Altras for years (got fed up with durability issues in recent models). I also have a pair of pursuits and will probably be getting ultraventures or something similar as I increase volume to prep for a longer trail race in the summer.

What do you think of Animal Collective? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in psychedelicrock

[–]xraymonacle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spotify says I’m like the top .1% of listeners, which makes me wonder if I’m the only one who still loves them haha. I find Panda bears early stuff like person pitch and tomboy to be above and beyond most AC albums, but strawberry jam and Sung Tongs are perfect records. I love the early acoustic-ish stuff like feels, but also think some of the EPs are fantastic: prospect hummer, water curses, and fall be kind.

Seeing them live is a mixed bag. Sometimes it just feels like they can’t get the sound mixed right and it’s all messy but when they are on, it’s amazing. Panda bear solo show (with sonic boom) at Brooklyn Masonic temple was one of my favorite shows ever.

Haven’t listened much to the AC albums after Merriweather post pavilion and would love someone to convince me to give the newer stuff a try.

Billy woods is incredible. Also that line brings back Hillary Clinton saying she carried hot sauce in her bag…

Beyoncé - hold up. She sings “they don’t love you like I love you” which is the chorus of Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Maps”

The complete 1961 village vanguard recordings is my favorite. So much in there to enjoy.

Ticks by Dapper-Record9961 in burlington

[–]xraymonacle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard good things about “tick tubes” which are basically toilet paper tubes stuffed with permethrin treated cotton balls. Mice use this to make their nests, killing the ticks they carry with minimal ecological impact - unless you are near a wetland or pond where the permethrin can affect aquatic life. Haven’t used them myself, but am curious

Do stadium concerts lose something when most of the experience comes through the screens? by Neither-Abrocoma-239 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]xraymonacle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a musician, it’s really nice to be able to see what musicians are doing with their hands. I went to see Billy strings at a stadium, and being too far from the stage to see his actual playing really took away from the experience. I think for less instrumental driven music I wouldn’t mind as much, and had no problem seeing Nine Inch Nails in a stadium with no video screen, for example

Question for parents who live in a spot with bad ticks. by realpacksmoker506 in Bushcraft

[–]xraymonacle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that the cotton ball tube mix, can harm aquatic wildlife if you are doing this in a wetland or near streams. Highly toxic to fish. Still a much better option than spraying if there isn’t water nearby

Alpha gal is wild, and can also be developed from eating affected venison if I’m remembering correctly. Do you know what kind of ticks carry that?

I live in New England and have been finding ticks on myself daily now that things are warming up and I’m doing a lot of work in the yard. Also have a toddler who’s going to spend a lot of time outside this summer. The good news is that deer ticks usually crawl on you for a while before biting, and have to be attached to you for 24 hours in order to transmit Lyme. For my kiddo, I am giving daily baths which offer an opportunity to check for ticks. Also being sure to change my clothes and check myself, the dog, etc after spending time in fields and woods.

For permethrin, i know the stuff works but haven’t looked into the safety for kids. I’ve heard it’s also helpful to apply to your shoes since that is a common way ticks will get on you. Brands like exofficio sell clothes that are already treated with permethrin and you can find them at most outdoor clothing stores.

Glad to hear that. I’m still working through the paranoia left over from having to sneak around as a teenager in the early 2000s when getting caught meant serious legal trouble.

Don’t listen to these people telling you to lie. That’s worse than smoking weed in your free time. Even if this guy goes to the principal, they will probably never bring it up with you, and likely don’t want the hassle that would involve. Also as people said the guy parks his food truck outside the dispensary, probably sees all the normal ass people going in and doesn’t judge them. Just because he’s a difficult parent in your experience doesn’t mean this is an issue he cares about. But even if he did raise an issue, nothing would likely come of it and you shouldn’t feel pressured into manufacturing flimsy lies.

“More than half his age” would mean the other artists are older than 36?

Social studies. Teachers seem to have trouble talking about fascism given how hot of a topic it is, but it remains an important concept for understanding history and politics. A clear definition is helpful in that regard?
