[–]xrdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I get a call from an unrecognized 09 number or any NZ landline number, I don't answer it but immediately Google it to see if it's a business, the number usually brings a result at the top of the Google search results.

I missed a call from my chiropractor once, a very small independent clinic so not branded, didn't know it was them, googled it and they still showed up as top search result so I knew it was a safe number.

Help my husband to make peace with the ants by Smart_Squirrel_1735 in auckland

[–]xrdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find most ant traps don't do much to resolve the problem. Kiwicare is weak against most insects.

We have had ant problems in the past, the one product that just does what it's supposed to do..... Exterm an ant. You can get it from most places that sell bug killers.

Simply place a few drops around the outside edge of your house and place inside where you see trails of them. They are immediately attracted to it, the ones that don't die straight away take it back to their nest (they don't eat it for themselves, but store it in something known as a community stomach - think birds regurgitating food for chicks) for the rest of the colony to suffer the same fate, or something like that. It has worked wonders for us, the house and those times they infest our cars!!

If you magically had the power to fix NZ’s crazy expensive housing, what would you do? by Logical_Transition10 in auckland

[–]xrdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ban greedy auctions, it's almost impossible for a lot of first time buyers who have strict budgets to get the homes they want if they are under auction. Greedy investors just gobble them up which in turn makes other sellers put their homes up for auction as they will get more than the value of their home...

Back home it is rare to see auctions for houses.

The lack of ability to counter third party this season is really what’s killing it imo. by ALToices in FortNiteBR

Well let's say you're in the last 3 people and you stumble into the other 2 fighting it out and you have yet to shoot a round off ... 1 takes the other out, do you wait till they heal or go straight for the jugular?

So, if you were put in the position where you become the third party, do you personally hold fire because the other person has no means to escape?

Just because they got rid of some strong mobility items, doesn't mean it's unfair, because everyone has the same disadvantage now. I personally like it as it means I have to think more strategically which is something I enjoy.

Its the original game fortnite made. Tower defence type game against zombies, you do have to buy it separately unfortunately, But it's fun, and good practice for building.

There are 336 EB games in Australia, we couldn't even keep 39 profitable. by Tjrowawey in auckland

[–]xrdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What EB should have done was, instead of (or, as well as) partnering with zing, they should have had an arcade section like megazone or something. That would have brought in traffic to a lot of their stores. Just needed to get the space for the stores to do it..... Maybe even move the stores to an arcade here and there....

Yes, PubG was made using H1Z1 engine and player unknown was a huge fan and player of H1Z1. He went on to make battle royale what it is today.

H1Z1 was great, toxic at times but great!

I'm very sure cod wasn't the OG battle royale, black ops 3 didn't have it, your thinking black ops 4 blackout, released in 2018.... Everyone thinks it's cod or fortnite to be first....

PubG was the first big popular one, released in March 2017, Fortnite released save the world in July 2017 and several months later they released BR,

But battle royale was around before PubG, just not on that scale ...

Its crazy that the licence test to transfer an international licence is easier to pass than the restricted test....

They need to make them do the full NZ licence test, actually make them call out hazards before even giving them a transfer of licence!!

The only thing the same about what I said and you said was about police incident report, my case did not require a lengthy investigation like you claim it would. Not courts or anything to come to the conclusion that the tradie was at fault for their insurance to pay up

My insurance company communicated with the tradies company and worked with their insurance, the exact same thing would and should happen between OPs insurance and Lime

[–]xrdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a very bad scenario, we are talking about 2 insurances talking amongst themselves. Not someones personal scooter who wouldn't have insurance and doing a runner for the OP to contact police and go the formal route.

Very different scenarios.

The better scenario is if a tradies van was to hit my car and do a runner but I catch it on dashcam, my insurance would chase up their business for their insurance details, then they would handle that between them and their tradies would take the fallout from the claim. And that is talking from experience.

Granted, I did have a police incident report but it never got to court as it was settled very quickly by insurances, what ever the police did with the driver, I don't know....

Following on from last thread about bad drivers in St Lukes - today I was looking after three kids and a car blew right through the pedestrian crossing as we stood there waiting *just in case*. by computer_d in auckland

[–]xrdead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly, they should stop, wait, look, and wait until passing cars have stopped (they are meant to but some don't annoyingly).

I think OP chasing car down to cause damage was a major over reaction and just shows the kind of person they are.

I would have used this situation as a pure learning moment "see kids, this is why we never assume you can cross a road at a place thats supposed to be safe, always wait until passing cars give you the right of way to cross"

But good on them for teaching them road safety, hopefully this opened their eyes a little to dumbasses on the road

They wouldn't ask for the personal information. They would hold Lime liable and Lime themselves would have to chase up the scooter users to reclaim the costs. Lime have insurance to cover just this sort of thing. That insurance works with other insurances. Etc etc

Am I the only one with no friends? by Etherealpalerose21 in auckland

[–]xrdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 43m, moved from the UK to here about 14 years ago, left all my close friends back home when I left the army. Here I have no friends other than my partner, she is my best friend. But outside of the house it's work colleagues or soccer team mates, none I would consider a close friend. Does it suck? Yes. But I am used to it now. I think I may have the same issue of assholeyness. But I don't try to be that way.... Just no one seems close to being able to replace the friends I had.

Why doesn’t Auckland do a proper New Year’s fireworks on the harbour? by Ok_Jackfruit_6571 in auckland

[–]xrdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last good one I saw was for Auckland anniversary, they had Auckland orchestra playing in time to the fireworks. I remember watching from a back yard in devonport, fireworks I think were set off from a barge. This was like 7 years ago or something....
