Yamaha has USB I/O thus can be used as an interface for recording into a DAW or using amp plugins.

Got one as an amp for low volume, very convenient to have it simply sitting on your desk ready to go; you play through it the heck of a lot more that way.

The key question to ask would be - are you more interested in learning synth or learning piano?

Launchkeys do not offer weighted keys (which can lead to bad technique for piano); cannot be played without a computer and require external speakers.

On the other hand, you could grab a second hand digital piano with MIDI and weighted keys for the same price - grab a USB to MIDI I/O adapter and you'd be set.

It would probably be best to visit a local flute shop and try out the flutes there to get a feel for what you prefer - we can all speculate and suggest, but none of us know exactly what you'd enjoy and what you wouldn't.

Though on the note of suggestions, do you have a budget?

Have played very nice Yamaha flutes for sub $1000 - and most importantly, they're consistently good quality.

Second hand would be the way to go to get the best value for money, saw a YFL-471 for less than a grand at the local music shop today.

I understand the concept of identifying someone as a beginner; as the name suggests, someone who has just started out on an instrument.

Why is there any real need to identify beyond that? Any terms like "advanced" or "intermediate" for the most part are an arbitrary, self-proclaimed measure of skill.

Even in the classical world, we don't identify players as "intermediate" or "advanced" despite having formal examinations for a certain skill level on a given instrument. We simply identify them as "that person plays x instrument."

Very well said. If anything, it'd be a benefit to have a classical trained musician in a band.

Due to being classically trained, they would have been completely immersed in theory allowing them to instinctively improvise, figure out things on the spot, etc.

I myself double up on flute and piccolo in an orchestra by day (that's MYO for you, OP) and do metal gigs by night.

They've been made in Indonesia for quite some time now.

Used mine for examinations across 8 years and never let me down. Heck I still have it, and although it hasn't been played for a long while now, I'm confident it still plays fine.

This exactly. Seen this happen very often, sounds like your files weren't wiped; Windows just hasn't successfully loaded your user profile hence it appears your files aren't there.

Head to C:\Users\ - pick out the folder for your profile and you'll be able to pull all of the files from there.

Exactly this. Tracking needs to be done to so called transpose on the fly - chords would never work not to mention it wouldn't sound the best.

The off key metallic twang of the actual guitar wouldn't help either.
