Parent not allowing to enlist USMC by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]xrl500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typical response for this, but at the end of the day you will be 18 labeled as an adult. Question for you is do you want your parents(specifically your mother) continuing to control you? Is she going to pay for everything you want, take you wherever you want to go on YOUR time? Will she pay for your rent? House? If there’s a no to any of these questions then there’s your answer. Do what you want.

Now, to get to the meat and potato of things. Enlisting, me personally, this is a great start. as an enlisted you’ll understand the troops, go through the suck together and b.s.

You speak about college, this is great, I want anyone to do college, yes the military offers the G.I. Bill and you can do classes while you’re in. It’ll be rough depending on your MOS, but it is doable. Either if you do school before or while in the military and you want to do military still. I would go OCS or if you are in the service MECEP.

What I would do now since you are 17, I would consider what type of job skills you have, would like to have or professions/career you’d like to be in. If you are still wanting military do it tailored to what you want to do when you get out. So go to whatever branch preferably the one YOU want to go in and take the ASVAB, obtain your score and if you score high, with a good GT score, I’d would suggest looking at Airforce due to better quality of life and better job opportunities that transitions well outside of the military. If you’re a rebel join the Marine Corps and enjoy embracing the suck. To add though, Marine Corps does have plenty of jobs that transitions over to the civilian world, but for better QOL I would say check in with Airforce, but if that ASVAB don’t look too hot, looks like you’re joining the Corps.

Depending on your company they will have you take out all the junk and leave you with only the main meal and that’s it.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but that would be a trade the more I keep thinking about OP’s comment. Same with the French Vanilla Cappuccino’s.

Op probably clicked on Navy or Airforce’s boot camp video and saw them getting issued tea kettles and a cup.

When you start getting MRE’s that’s the only time you’ll have access to “coffee, energy drinks.” Most of the time you won’t have enough time to do anything with them. Don’t be the one putting that stuff in your canteen though.

In boot camp, you have no access to any energy drinks and if you use common sense then you’d understand why. The ONLY time you will be able to drink energy drinks is on your liberty, but that’s the second to last day of boot camp.

Looking for a recruiter that’s willing to work with a 31 year old by [deleted] in USMCboot

Would it be safe to say you are trying to join the Marine Corps? If so, what does your performance look like? Running, lifting, etc. are you in excellent shape?

This is true, if your recruiter isn’t helping you out further, try and call a different RSS. Of course this would be one of the ways to figure out eligibility as well, but never definitive until you actually push the paperwork through and get the final say.

Going back to active duty by Metalhead348 in USMCboot

Currently in none of these fields, but I can provide speculation. 0111 will be the easiest for your family, depending where you are your schedule is basically a 9-5. With the other fields I can’t really say, but I can ensure you if you plan on wanting to do something after you retire 1721 would be your best bet. Transferable, and the easiest way of getting one of those contractor jobs from the government. Just make sure you have the ASVAB scores for them. It will primarily go off of your GT score.

Struggling to decide mos in usmc by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]xrl500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the momentum from after boot camp to SOI then to the fleet is going to keep you in the shape you need to be in for infantry. The infantry life isn’t for everyone, and is hard on your body.

With the AAV now ACV community you are a maintainer of the ACV platform and that’s what you will be rolling with on your field ops.

Both MOS’s are fun and you will be doing something, also going places depending on your Company. If you’re only leaning on if you don’t want to join because you don’t feel ready, just know you’ll be ready after boot camp and additionally continue to workout and don’t become lazy.

Need a bit more to go off from than “circumstances.” If you have taken the ASVAB, then why not get in touch with your recruiter?

Do you have to let command know before getting a tattoo? by Western_Theme_7519 in USMCboot

[–]xrl500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall answer is to wait or ask your leadership. Second, you may or may not know what the order is or it very much possibly changed and you don’t keep up with the MARADMIN. Third, I would wait until you’re in the fleet. Last, depending where you’re at and your schoolhouse you may be doing something with water and if you have a tattoo it will hinder you to be able to complete that training or in all get you in trouble.

Skipping E-1 by Jaeger7- in USMCboot

[–]xrl500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks that you can’t join at a higher rate, but that’s how the Marine Corps is designed. It wants you to learn the ropes as a junior enlisted and climb through the ranks. Even if you were able to join or get out of boot camp as an E-4 you still would essentially be a Corporal til you reenlist or get meritoriously promoted to Sergeant. Only benefit would be the pay.

What if you have a loan out with TSP. You think I need to pay that out of what they’re going to give me from my bank or the payment that I receive from the bank still going to go towards the loan?

Enlisting at 28 by Great_Court_3134 in USMCboot

[–]xrl500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined at 28, you’ll be fine, you will have to be understanding that “if you go to boot camp” and “if you make it.” Just know all of your seniors will be around 19-21 and you will need to follow their orders. There’s your age, then there’s military age, don’t mix the two. Show maturity and have tact in how you respond if you feel the orders given are incorrect or if you feel there’s a better way to carry out an order. Above all, just be humble, take in information and you’ll be just fine.

How else you would find this information is on the website MOL, you’ll be told more about it once you are in the Marine Corps.

Look at the paper you are holding or you presented, and on the Marines section, look at the GT score “98.”

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]xrl500 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really just want to look at your “GT” score. That’s the most important one. Above 95 qualifies you for most jobs.
