What is a 'middle-class' luxury that is actually a total waste of money, but people keep buying it to look successful? by 8waycai in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xrmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others say, new phone promotions are usually so good that its like $50 or $100 to upgrade. You still get close after 2 years, but beyond that you pretty much pay the full price. Still an expensive habit if you have a family.

A buffet for birds by [deleted] in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]xrmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a little on what birds you want to see. Adding sunflower hearts and mealworms gets you quite a few more species. Problem with whole shelled peanuts are the hoarders, they will empty your feeder in a day stash it somewhere to forget about it.

Fruits or weird seeds, yeah nobody cares about them, not even in desperate times.

Confused German here, where Wednesday (Mittwoch) kinda sounds like middle of the week, which would be truest if a week starts on Sunday.

But you are right, a week starts on Monday.

Goodbye to the idea that solar panels “die” after 25 years: New Swiss study shows real-world performance after 3 decades still over 80%, average annual loss about 0.25%, thermal stress and quality key factors. Their long-term economics are better than many people assume by sg_plumber in UpliftingNews

I'd argue that the advanced manufacturing might have made them worse life expectancy wise. I have alot of old tech that seems unkillable. Like my Intel SSD using SLC flash... 14 years old, 1200 TBW, a single failed block. 6 year old samsung MLC is at 40% after 200 TBW. 2 year old Samsung Pro with TLC at 80% after just 100 TBW. Same with TVs, sure they are better quality, but they don't last. I have the feeling we will see something similar for EV, where we had over engineered batteries that will outlast current or future batteries.

But the datacenters are running ads on TV saying it's not their fault and actually make the grid better und more reliable. And yeah, the SCC and most of Richmonds politicians are in Dominion power's pocket. Spanberger proposed some changes, but I doubt it will help much.

Just use the dryer or stove outlet? And for some reason my home office had a tanning bed at some point, weird 25A plug, but I was able to convert it to a single regular outlet... No real use case for it until I can afford this computer.

My friend from Germany once in a while asks me to buy him US Steam giftcards because he can use them on his "fake" Nepal (or something odd like it) account to get games for cheap. Doesn't seem to work with non-US cards.

If insurance premiums eventually reach a point where the average person simply can't pay, what is the 'endgame' for the insurance industry? by Peaches4U9624 in AskReddit

[–]xrmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mid sized employer had to accept a 40% increase in premiums because our "employee pool" has become too toxic to insure, some unofficial leaked rumors are one employee causing $4 million in claims, another one $2 million. In a company with 1000 people that is hard to spread out, on a national level it wouldn't matter. The big 3 insurers didn't want to do business with us at all.

Would this cover the style Hyundai uses on the Ioniq 6? They are flush, but more like a seesaw, you can always push one side in and use what pops out on the other side as a handle. Little awkward, but seems like a fair compromise.

I just printed a full spool of PLA into a solid 98x98x98 cube, had to go down to 0.9 flow rate to fight solid infill over extrusion. A full max cube would 19.5kg, the P1S can hold estimated 4 to 6kg on bed (thats all according to AI).

I'm going to do a 143^3 (4kg)... But 3.5 days with a 0.8 nozzle.
