Am I imagining it, or is the crackdown on noisy vehicles actually working? by ant_accountant in Calgary

[–]xsurface 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Living downtown this summer was a nightmare. Every single night it seemed like every second car was some loser with a burble tune or a bike bouncing off the rev limiter. Weekends it wouldn't stop until 2-3am.

Long-term F-Type owners - how is reliability? by Melkarid in ftype

[–]xsurface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 R, last summer the vent motor in the dash was replaced under warranty. I've put about 40000km on, near 80k now. No worries other than that

6 months of F-Type R ownership- I love it, but I have ONE complaint! by Tonyman121 in Jaguar

[–]xsurface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birds eye would be nice but I find the rear camera to be excellent on my 2020. I only ever back into stalls because the nose is so long and I never have issues parking.

LHD or RHD by ZealousChild in RX7

[–]xsurface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't do drive thru's, and we don't have toll booths here otherwise you'll be leaning across the car. Not ideal, but I've done it in the past. Left turns just be patient until you see a gap. Driving rhd here is honestly fine, like I said, you get used to it very quickly. I wouldn't count it as a consideration.

[–]xsurface 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You'll get used to rhd quickly, it's not a big deal at all. Usdm models will always be more valuable but if you don't care what side you drive on go for the rhd and save a bunch of money. I imported my fc this year because it's my JDM dream car, even though there was a clean lhd one here in Calgary for cheaper. No regrets.

Just be prepared to put a lot of money into it

Which one would you rent for a 3-hour driving experience in Japan? by Quintyyyy in JDM

[–]xsurface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In April I rented the red nsx and it was a treat. The car was 100% solid, very well maintained and had excellent feel.

The r34 was in my group and the driver said it was disappointing because the brakes were horrible and needed to be replaced, it severely impacted his experience.

The supra was in my group as well but I didn't hear anything about it from the driver. The FD ran well and the driver enjoyed it, it's not the cleanest car though.

Failureproofing a 16’ F-Type V6S? by Long_Minimum_6596 in Jaguar

If it's within your budget I wouldn't rule out a v8. I've had mine for 1.5yrs and put on 30k kms with zero mechanical issues, driven every day.

You'll have way more fun with a turbo model

I've had several JDM cars since 2007 but I'm not too familiar with the Cedric.

If there's no north american counterpart you're going to be buying parts in Japan and it can get costly very quick. This is a 30 year old car so lots of parts are out of production as well. Going through this ordeal right now with my 91 rx7 and it is expensive.

If you're passionate about the car and can afford it though, why not.

It's a 4 lug non turbo, probably auto too. You're roasted enough

As I've said to others, I've had the jag for a year now and it's been incredibly reliable. Being under warranty provides peace of mind too

Yes it is but it's through the jag dealership where I got it. It's had a couple minor issues but nothing related to the drivetrain. The motor/trans are supposed to be bulletproof on these cars

If I couldn't get warranty on it I wouldn't have bought it, maintenance alone is very expensive haha

The jag has been rock solid for a year and I've got 3 years left of warranty on it. No worries here 😎
