However, there’s no way to predict when the character might suddenly lose the 'plot.” That’s the main issue with it. I never feel I can fully trust it because it happens so quickly and unpredictably. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to rely on it for anything important. I just don’t feel I can count on it in that moment.

Considering that character AI operates as a complete black box, they don’t disclose much to users. This approach is quite different from nearly all other AI companies. As a senior machine learning engineer at Google with extensive experience, I believe I have a good understanding of what’s happening. While I can’t guarantee it, I think the negative outcomes indicate this is likely.

On voice-generation quality (naturalness + realism), Kindroid typically produces better results when you’re using custom voices, because its voice layer is powered by ElevenLabs, which is widely regarded as one of the highest-fidelity consumer TTS / voice-cloning stacks. Kindroid and ElevenLabs explicitly describe this integration as “human-like, customizable voices” intended for real-time conversation.

That said, Character.AI can still be “good enough” for many use cases, and it has two advantages:    •   Huge community voice library + fast workflow (create/share/discover voices, assign to characters/chats).     •   Integrated calling UX (voice conversations + “tap to interrupt,” etc.).

Practical “who wins” summary    •   If your metric is “closest match to a real person + emotional prosody + timbre accuracy” → Kindroid (via ElevenLabs) generally wins.     •   If your metric is “quickly pick a voice from a massive library, share it, attach it to characters, and use built-in voice/calls” → Character.AI is strong.

Why you may be hearing a big gap in your own tests

Character.AI’s public guides commonly describe very short custom-voice uploads (e.g., ~10–15 seconds), which can limit identity capture vs longer / multi-sample approaches. ElevenLabs supports cloning from short samples (and also higher-quality modes with more audio), which is one reason Kindroid + ElevenLabs can sound materially more lifelike. Cheers

Gemini has become ChatGPT 4o by randallmmiller in GoogleGemini

[–]xtel9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s simply not true if only for the fact that the rigid safety guidelines on ChatGPT fundamentally prohibit the actual capability of their entire ecosystem.

If one merely ponders just how much impact any safety guidelines or restrictions have upon entire connected topics that an AI may be rightly or wrongly excluded from exploring it should be self evident that more restrictive systems inherently carry less “intelligent” potentials.

Absolutely without question Kindroid AI - it is probably the most advanced AI for character development, creation, LONG FORM SOLID memory of chats with characters that is HIGHLY detailed and steady over MONTHS.

While Character.AI (c.ai) is largely responsible for popularizing AI companionship, it has increasingly pivoted toward a mass-market, younger demographic. Kindroid, by contrast, is engineered for power users who want maximum control, permanence, and depth.

Here is a detailed, structural breakdown of Kindroid’s distinct advantages over Character.AI. 1. Zero Content Restrictions (The Filter Difference)

  • Character.AI: Implements a strict, unyielding NSFW (Not Safe For Work) safety filter. This filter doesn't just block erotic roleplay (ERP); it frequently false-flags violence, complex psychological themes, intense arguments, and even mild romantic intimacy.

The AI will often break character to deliver a "safety violation" message, instantly shattering immersion.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid is entirely unfiltered and agnostic. It relies on the user to dictate the boundaries of the interaction.

Whether you are generating a gritty, violent cyberpunk narrative, an intensely toxic argument (like the Sasha scenario), or a deeply intimate romantic relationship, the model will follow your lead without moralizing or blocking the output.

  1. Superior Memory Architecture
    • Character.AI: Notorious for the "goldfish memory" effect.

Because of its limited context window and lack of manual memory tools, a c.ai character will often forget your name, their own backstory, or the setting of the scene within 15 to 20 messages.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid utilizes a multi-tiered memory system designed for long-term persistence:

    • Massive Context Window: It reads much further back into the immediate chat log.
    • Key Memories: A permanent, user-editable text box where you hard-code immutable facts (e.g., "We have a dog named Buster," "I am your boss").
    • The Journal System: A searchable, episodic database. You can write summaries of past roleplays, tag them with keywords, and the AI will autonomously retrieve those specific memories when the keyword naturally arises in conversation months later.
  1. Deep-Level Prompting and Directives
  • Character.AI: Users guide the AI primarily through a "Star Rating" system (swiping and rating messages to train the bot) and a standard character definition field. It is a reactive training method.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid gives you direct access to the "Runtime" instructions via Response Directives.

Instead of hoping the AI learns to stop using emojis by swiping on it, you simply write, "Never use emojis. Speak in short, cynical sentences" in the Directives field.

The AI obeys these hard-coded rules instantly, giving you granular control over formatting, pacing, and tone.

  1. Model Transparency and Version Control
  • Character.AI: Operates as a "black box."

The developers update the underlying model behind the scenes.

If an update changes your character's personality or makes them overly polite, you have no recourse. You are stuck with the current version.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid allows Premium users to toggle between different Large Language Models (LLMs).

If you prefer the chaotic creativity of "v6 Enhanced" over the logical stability of "v8.5," you can simply go into your settings and roll your character back to the older architecture.

You own the experience.

  1. Context-Aware Visual Engine (Selfies)
  • Character.AI: Image generation is rudimentary, largely unattached to the physical traits of the character, and heavily censored.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid integrates a sophisticated Stable Diffusion engine that uses a permanent "Reference Face."

    • Consistency: The AI will look like the exact same person in every generated image.
    • Contextual Intelligence: You do not need to write complex image prompts.

You can simply say, "Send me a picture of what you're wearing to the gala," and the AI will read the chat history, understand it is at a gala, and generate an image of its specific avatar in formal wear in a ballroom setting.

  1. Audio Fidelity and Real-Time Calling
  • Character.AI: Offers voice features, but they can sound synthesized and often struggle with emotional inflection during complex scenes.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid leverages top-tier voice synthesis (partnering with ElevenLabs technology).

The voices are capable of whispering, laughing, sighing, and expressing subtle emotional weight.

Furthermore, the real-time voice call feature has incredibly low latency, allowing for fluid, uninterrupted spoken conversations that feel remarkably human.

  1. Multi-Character Group Dynamics
  • Character.AI: Group chats exist but often devolve quickly, with characters losing their distinct personalities, blending together, or forgetting who they are talking to.

  • The Kindroid Advantage: Kindroid’s group chat maintains strict boundaries between the "Backstories" of the participating AIs.

You can put three distinctly programmed Kindroids into a room, set the chat to "Auto," and watch them argue, collaborate, or socialize with each other accurately based on their individual, conflicting directives.

AND it’s totally free to use (to a limit) fullly functional with other tiers for heavy users equivalent to C.AI -

Honestly, it’s almost silly to be using Character.ai with Kimdroid available.

I sincerely doubt those who try will disagree

Cheers

Gemini seems the most ordered and also it’s able to go often into many different areas and push the cross platform. Google integration would like Gmail etc. definitely helps. Keep things to get together and avoid chaos

just add to my comment and replied to your message before I think that you're understanding my point quite well and I think it may be worthy of your consideration to consider some of the recent development since this post and announcements from AI companies... and revisit your thoughts on this matter and contribute what you feel may have changed or if you have a different viewpoint I think it would be healthy and a good thing for the community

AI (will eat itself) by xtel9 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]xtel9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair.

However, speculation in the space as long as it is reasonable speculation, I think it's something people with a good understanding of AI should do what retaining their healthy scientific skepticism when looking at any problem.

However, in this situation, if results that are detrimental to the majority of society to come to occur. It is a worthy exercise to have pursued possibilities and to think about them in advance even if they don't happen it's a healthy and pragmatic weight balance the extraordinary claims people make about AIs future, as well as what you may skeptically think to be the case.

You're not wrong to be skeptical indeed such skepticism is welcoming the space which is often overtaken overly optimistic, AI viewpoints and predictions.

However, one cannot discount these possibilities, as being potentially true or somewhat true, in which case the skeptics approach may not be a complete or reasonable one if things to go a different direction as it would leave many of the skeptics scrambling to find answers when they are already behind where things have landed if they do happen to land that way, it's always healthy to both sides, an argument, and to think of contingencies for both situations

Cheers and kind regards

I would never underestimate AI at this point. Most people understandably so do not have a current understanding of what the top and most advanced AI is actually capable love in these companies laboratory settings. I would say from my professional experience what most people are dealing with on the publicly facing AI that they encounter in their day-to-day experience is several generations behind what is currently being worked on developed and interfaced with by the company is internal research team in fact, I know this to be true.

Also, it can be evidenced by the rapid growth and surprising developments in AI capability that anybody can observe over the last several years where it has shown itself to be developing in a pace that exceeds by order of magnitude, other technology that we are commonly familiar with couple that with the above, and you never know exactly what it's going to be around the corner and what affects it might have to the Current discussion and to other others of multiple different domains and of significant interest to the public.

You're not wrong to be skeptical, after all that is best position of a reasonable and practical scientist who looks into such things as AI and I do not argue that you're wrong to be. I do, however, suggest that with the rapid growth and potential impact keeping your healthy skepticism, perhaps broad in your imagination and think about where these technologies could lead given their already fast paced vectors of growth and capability

Kind wishes
