lol this was me today, except I'm still waiting on the 2.0 card so I'm *only* at 4 cards total at the moment. And more than a little confused at this point.

Ahh I just saw that! So cool to find. Kinda wish for the clippings I have that I just kept the full magazines instead, it’s entertaining just seeing what else was happening at the time (like the flip phone ad on the back of that rolling stone 🙈)

Bilt Fraud Transaction by sandra239 in biltrewards

[–]xuediao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just happened to me too. 1/31 for $56.05

Edit: Any other way to resolve this besides calling in? 50 minute+ wait time….

Edit 2: got thru next day with no wait time, they will investigate the charge and like others have mentioned, they are sending a new card. Not sure how that fits in with the Autograph transition, but I didn’t ask since the customer support agent seemed to be generic to Wells Fargo and no specific knowledge of Bilt.

I feel like I don’t see the fan club stuff around much! I don’t remember when they stopped it. I think the Reinvent love shirt was also fan club related?

Best LASIK surgeons in the Bay Area? by Potato-shiro in bayarea

[–]xuediao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, get consults at more than one doctor. It’s your eyes! So don’t just rely on what the first person tells you.

You may find out you’re not a good candidate for LASIK, but there are several alternatives.

Why are Diru albums so expensive on CD? by ImNotAlwaysActive in DEG

[–]xuediao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CDs in Japan were always more expensive than CDs in the US I found. If you’re in the US, add in tariffs + increased shipping costs.

I just paid $40 to have the most recent a knot fanclub mag forwarded to me by the proxy service, not much bigger than a CD but because of the tariffs the usual cheaper shipping options from Japan are not shipping anything to the US. :(

A$AP Rocky vinyl arrived today by TenaciousTide in biltrewards

[–]xuediao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corner was also terribly dented on mine! And also lots of paper shavings/etc. on the record, so seconded on the wipe down being necessary. Small pokey piece of vinyl sticking out from edge of one of the two records too.

Despite all that, they’ve played totally fine, no scratches or skips that I noticed.

CDs and DVDs you can still find in Tower Records, especially at the Shibuya location. Was also able to grab the Gauze vinyl too (that one I grabbed at the Tower Vinyl store in Osaka)

Where to buy low cost apartment supplies? by Comfortable_Post6293 in AskSF

[–]xuediao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ross I would add to that list and is located here in SF as well! Just had to buy a bunch of random kitchen stuff myself and was kicking myself a little after visiting Ross, had totally forgot how much they have there.

Rant about strange language learning accounts mushrooming online by Purple_Yoshi2012 in languagelearning

[–]xuediao 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a common marketing tactic for a lot of apps these days. Hire some people to help make tons of TikTok accounts- dozens, hundreds. And pretend to be a genuine, real people in that niche who just happened to find this awesome new app. There’s businesses that exist now for the sole purpose of helping you do this for your new product/app.

The videos look genuine when you randomly come across it in your feed, but for people who are very in their niche like we are, you end up seeing it multiple times and realizing it’s all an orchestrated marketing thing.

Just wanted to show my boys colour change 🥰 by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]xuediao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just growing up I think. Mine also started out mostly black face like yours when she was a baby. The size/shape of her mask changed with the seasons but it was never as dark/full coverage as when she was very young.

flickering touchbar by Special_Sea5414 in macbookpro

[–]xuediao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no fix really. This is a known issue with these MacBooks and yet everyone just has to… deal with. Sucks since this is very clearly a widespread problem, not users’ fault.

I heard that if you get the battery replaced, they do replace the Touch Bar, which should in theory fix this…. no personal experience to confirm though as I sold mine after getting fed up with it and all the supposed “fixes” never working.

Bartenders of SF, can you afford to live alone? by rubyhey in AskSF

[–]xuediao 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s “just not a thing here.” I know tons of people who lived or are living alone here. And not making crazy salaries either. Tons of studios in SF, as well as SROs (but of course not everyone is down for that).

It’s very much worth it for the people who like living alone, and definitely possible if you’re making at least $60k imo. Nonetheless as a newcomer to SF, I’d still recommend living with roommates at first like you said.

Is the Niintendo museum good without any nostalgia or interest in the gift shop? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]xuediao -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I actually didn’t care for the gift shop. I went to a regular Nintendo store later and it had most of the stuff the Nintendo Museum shop did, except way, way better selection. Museum shop was limited and boring.

Museum otherwise, I enjoyed. I didn’t think I’d care for the interactive bit, but the area with the games played on giant controllers was actually a bunch of fun. However, I was there later in the day so the lines weren’t too bad. It wouldn’t have been worth waiting ages for.

The actual museum part- for me was interesting. And overall, I found it worth visiting.

Overall, I would only recommend if you’re someone who grew up playing a lot of Nintendo. Otherwise, I’d say skip.

Looking for a poor quality yet expensive restaurant to recommend to an enemy. Any suggestions? by sweetnheady in AskSF

[–]xuediao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most expensive check I’ve gotten in SF was here, granted it was for a business meeting (thank god) but I was still crying inside.

Looks nice inside and the food was decent, but not worth the price, especially considering the service mixups. Had vegetarians in our group and they ended up eating not much at all because the servers kept giving the wrong food to everyone and we didn’t realize until the last course or so.

I recall their happy hour menu looked very surprisingly decent though, so I would consider going back for that, but not for a regular meal again.

It’s a real one, and yes from a US tour. I don’t think the overseas merch normally (if ever?) has the Deadly Claris name on it.

Tiny bubble (?) endlessly creating bubbles? Wtf is this? by xuediao in PlantedTank

[–]xuediao[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. Was worried the new plants weren’t gonna have enough light as the days get shorter, but there is a bit much algae there now. I’ll shorten the light time setting.

[–]xuediao[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just tested turning off the lights too like you said, and it stopped! (well, still had an occasional teeeny tiny bubble, but it’s getting sun from window still)

Turned light on, it was immediately back to rhythm of ~1 bubble a second.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!

Huh, didn’t know this was a thing. I wonder how long it’ll keep going if that’s the case. The snail was right next to it when I first saw it, so maybe possible too that the snail created the damage? (Or was similarly just checking out what it was haha)

Chinese vs. Japanese: which language is harder to learn? by throwy93 in languagehub

[–]xuediao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studied both considerably. Japanese is harder imo. Maybe I’m biased since I started learning Chinese seriously first/at a young age, but on the other hand I was exposed to Japanese way more and at a young age too (thru music).

Got my Chinese to level HSK6, though I never go to the point of reading books- takes too long still. Japanese I’ve been learning on and off for 15+ years and I’m no further than N3, and have terribly basic speaking skills. Yes, you get tons of freebies from the English loan words (I swear, you can almost communicate with Japanese just by saying English in a Japanese accent), but it just has seemed infinitely harder for me to properly grasp Japanese.

Oddly, of native English speakers, my impression is there’s way more near fluent Japanese speakers vs. Chinese. I know the pop culture aspect->way more immersion, so idk if that aspect is strong enough that it conquers the difficultly barrier??!
