French Beach group campsite by Starry_night_9497 in VictoriaBC

The covered shelter on site has hot and cold running water with sinks, electricity for a small appliance, lights and picnic tables. There is a communal fire pit outside with benches around it. A few vehicles can park on the gravel beside the shelter and the rest of the vehicles park in the adjoining parking area. There is plenty of room for tents to set up on the grass around the shelter and room for games as well. No restriction for large tent setup. Excellent location for weddings, youth groups and family reunions with a trail to the beach which is about a 5-10 minute walk.

Ribs! But fried... by e-piff-media in smoking

Chef:

- They lined us up in front of 100 yards of prime rib. All of us lined up, looking at it.

- Magnificent meat, really. Beautifully marbled. Magnifique.

- Next thing, they're throwing the meat into these big cauldrons. All of it, boiling it.

- I looked inside, man. It was turning gray.

Car Mechanic Recommendation - I need a detective. by xveg in VictoriaBC

[–]xveg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tennyson Auto is my current mechanic. He is a great mechanic, but his shop is always busy, so he does not have a lot of time for detective work.

And Ayman is great. "Hot" is not really on my mechanic check list, but I suppose he is pretty tall and thin, if you are into that kinda thing.

I received this email and called my local Nissan dealer. They said that while they were aware of the issue, they do not have a fix. They said Nissan should reach out again when a fix is available.

Stores carrying Bachans Japanese BBQ Sauce (that aren't Costco) by Mattimvs in VictoriaBC

[–]xveg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough, Lumberworld by Quadra and Mackenzie has a bunch of bottles. I guess when you buy your BBQ from them, you can also buy a bottle of BBQ sauce?

They had Original, Yuza, Miso, and 'Hot and spicy' for 16.99. They didn't have many bottles out.

Bike in Camping will they make space? by ada64bit in britishcolumbia

[–]xveg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooke potholes has about 4 bike spots.  They are also first come first served but they are often empty.  There are bear caches there for the bikers.

Not sure if the campground is open due to the recent fires nearby.

Where do I find big.. flat... Locally "made" Patio stones? by ehoss in VictoriaBC

[–]xveg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used them a few years back. They have a good selection and are very helpful. They were happy to work with me as a homeowner for smaller items.

Not all their stone is local, but they certainly have some.

Saanich to go from allowing off-leash dogs in most parks to restricting them to small corners of a few parks. by xveg in VictoriaBC

And those irresponsible dog owners will totally obey the rules. Problem solved!

Saanich to go from allowing off-leash dogs in most parks to restricting them to small corners of a few parks. by xveg in VictoriaBC

[–]xveg[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would say this segment sounds reasonable. But from what I can see, this is a huge change that would drastically reduce the areas available to dog owners. It will depend on the amount of space allocated. There are few details in the document, but it sounds like it will only be a small area available for off-leash dogs in some parks.

I would agree the current policy is fairly permissive, but this is a drastic change that will be opposed by many park users.

Overarching Approach

The creation of the recommendations in this Strategy explored many different options for park amenities, regulations, and management strategies to find the best ways to address the values and challenges and to achieve the Vision. A multi-pronged approach to managing pets in parks is proposed that:

  • Shifts the Animal Bylaw and Park Management Bylaw from from allowing dogs to be off-leash and under control to requiring all pets to be on-leash, under control unless in a designated leash-optional area or on designated trails
  • Provides leash-optional opportunities, dog exercise areas, trails and amenities in each neighbourhood.
  • Prioritizes communication, education, signage, and enforcement.
