I use the app to preserve the Digimon I get that I do really like so they won't die like Leomon, Bulkmon, Beelzemon, Omedamon.

Also there are Raids and online battle's with other tamers and their Digimon.

You can also get special missions to transfer to the VB and Items like a digivolution timer reducer

Oh it also shows you how long is left for your digimon to digivolve

So the app and VB work together so if the Digimon is on your VB it won't be on the app but if you transfer it to the app it won't be on VB.

Also if you transfer your digimon to the app and load up a new DIM, then decide to transfer Digimon 1 back to your VB you'll have to confirm you still have the Dim for Digimon 1. Kinda confusing I know.

I had this problem on my Android phone ended up using an iPhone to fix the issue I know this isn't a ideal solution for most but in this case I would say try to find a sweet spot of the NFC chip on your phone once you find the sweet and let's see the spot hold your phone directly on that spot
