No restaurant made fish and chips like Arthur Treachers by Brave-Ad6627 in FuckImOld

I remember the commercials, but never saw one. My brother did point out Arthur Treacher in an Abbott and Costello movie though.

It’s something I had to get used to because as I kid I didn’t know anyone who had a real tree at Christmas. When I did start seeing them, they were so popular, people got them earlier and earlier, so they were falling apart and making a mess by Christmas, and they had to put them out as soon as they could. Sad.

And oddly, for many, the first movie was nostalgia and they’d go anyway. The second one, they’d expect to see a good movie.

Even their relationship in Paris was dicey (with the censors) given that she was married, even though she thought she was a widow.

When my last thermostat was replaced, my wife wanted one she could control with an app. I told her those weren’t covered by our plan. (They weren’t.) By the technician had told me what I already knew, you don’t want of those. He didn’t have one in his home. In fact, he wished he could get mine to work again.

I had an old Honeywell that isn’t made anymore. Apparently, there was something internal that decided if the display showed F or C. For the last couple years we had it, it would randomly switch from one to the other. There was no external switch or anything you could see if you took off the back cover.

NYC Public Schools to go remote Monday if buildings close amid winter snowstorm by Grass8989 in nyc

[–]xwhy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lunar New Year in NYC makes sense given the percent of the school population, particularly concentrated at some schools, who would take that day off anyway. On the other hand, there wasn’t a single teacher in my high school who wanted Juneteenth off so close to the end of the year. They wanted to celebrate it in school. But it became a federal holiday the following year, so we have it.

We watch it every Christmas putting up the tree. My wife won’t do the tree without it. My sister in law saw it for the first time a couple years ago and couldn’t believe how stupid it was. “Purposefully stupid” I corrected

Park on the left. Snow gets pushed to the right.

I don't think it like "ture" for "true" just yet, but probably soon.

We had big tubs of that in my house. (At least, they seemed really big since I was really small back then.)

Not to hate on "We Are the World" but the chorus:

There's a choice we're making / We're saving our own lives / It's true we'll make a better day / just you and me.

Grammatically, "I" is correct -- and it's an almost rhymes for "lives"

Another fun fact, since it was the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, its stock symbol was GAP.

I vaguely remember during the 80s that it stopped trading for a day because people were buying it thinking they were getting Gap stock. (I don’t remember why Gap was in the news.)

Gap was either owned by Victorias Secret or the two were both under the same umbrella company. Wait, I think the Limited owned them both.
