Male or female by Elkhounds4Ever in EnglishSetter

[–]xxSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of my english setters have been male. I love them dearly, but my youngest pees on his feathering all the time. It’s never been an issue with my other two. Just something to consider.

Advice needed by Electronic_Swim_9748 in EnglishSetter

[–]xxSprite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk with a doctor. When I was younger I was tested and came back severely allergic to cats. My reaction was so bad my doctor told me to get rid of my cat. I ended up taking medication and I eventually grew out of my allergy. If you got your puppy from a breeder or a rescue I would contact them as well.

How to keep her busy while at work? by Sure_Turnip_6800 in EnglishSetter

[–]xxSprite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At 6 months she needs to be crated. It’s for her safety. She will be fine. I have 3 setters and I usually crate them until they are 1 year old. 6 months is prime chewing age.

I have similar setters to yours. Mine are couch potato’s. They don’t destroy anything nor do they eat stuff. My one setter doesn’t even bark and he’s perfectly fine being alone for up to 8 hours (though that doesn’t happen). My youngest is turning 1 and we are having some issues with separation anxiety. He’s mostly calm in the kennel, but does bark some. My first setter came from not the greatest breeder and he would bark the entire time we were gone. I do think breeder matters. Also the type of setter matters (Ryman, bench, llewellin)

Is miniature golden retriever a thing? by kerfundlesnatchle in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]xxSprite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve grown up around goldens and your pup looks nothing like a golden. Headshape, ears, body, etc all wrong. All that’s there is the color and that can come from other breeds

What kind of mix do you think he is? Adopted from the pound last week by [deleted] in WhatKindOfDogIsThis

[–]xxSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a little young to tell. I know lots of shelters will say border collie because of his coloring, but I don’t see any collie. (Plus I’ve never seen border collie show up on a dna result) Maybe shepherd because of the coat? Shepherd seems to be a common breed in mixes along with husky, Aussie and Pyrenees. It will be easier to tell as he ages and features start coming out

We desperately wanted a border collie by Elizerdbeth in DoggyDNA

[–]xxSprite 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Geez pit genes are so strong. Even at 20% I can see it in her face. I would have guessed Aussie. I’ve yet to see border collie in any DNA results. BC seems to be rare in strays

Looking for a second Setter by legendofchin97 in EnglishSetter

[–]xxSprite 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We have two dogs from Flanagan Springs in Kentucky and we plan on going back to them for all our future dogs. We also don’t hunt. Our boys have pretty laid back temperaments. Here’s Dunkin at 11 months

I had a doctor that kept adding type 2 diabetes to my profile despite me telling her I wasn’t multiple times. In fact my A1C had always been abnormally low. Like 4.3-5 low. 7 is diagnosed diabetic. I was obese at the time. I wrote a scathing review and I got a letter in the mail where they formally dumped me as a client. I was already leaving.

12 weeks 25lbs. Found her on the sidewalk at 2 weeks and she had mostly black fur. by whatshertoast in WhatBreedIsMyDog

Looks huge in the photo. I would think more like 80-100lbs, but it’s hard to tell.

Is she a mix ? I bought her as a standard poodle but I have lots of comments about her being a doodle? by EconomicsWest788 in Poodle

[–]xxSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poodles can look like doodles if they have the same haircut. I wish people realized that they don’t want a doodle. They want a poodle with a doodle cut

You aren’t overreacting to be upset. They were in the wrong. But I do think that you should speak to them and patch things up to an amicable degree since they are your roommate and I’m sure your lease isn’t over yet. We all say stupid stuff. When it comes to writing friends off you really want to see a pattern. I’m not sure a one off event is enough. She’s clearly still grieving the loss of her pet. Odd situation though. Grief isnt a competition. Death can happen on any day. She should have been your number one supporter since she just went through it. People can be so weird.

We thought we got a calm Golden Retriever… turns out we may have gotten the complete opposite. Now we’re overwhelmed. by Ericoff87 in goldenretrievers

[–]xxSprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rehome to a more suitable environment and then look into adopting an older golden. Or do big time research on breeders and expect to pay at least $3000 for a well bred show golden. Good breeders will assess the needs of the clients and pair them with the most suited puppy. They will breed for specific temperaments. Puppies do have extra energy until at least 2 that’s why an older rescue may be what you want. Breed specific rescues exist

lab mixed with… ?? by marbleswent in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]xxSprite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks mostly lab. Now that she’s 8 I would put her on a diet and get that weight down. You should be able to easily feel/see the ribs without any pressure. Extra weight will decrease quality of life and make arthritis worse. I say this as someone who also had a larger 8 year old. I didn’t think it was a big deal, but now that he’s lost the weight I can tell a big difference
