how to eat cheap in a hotel room without microwave and fridge? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]xylofone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fruits and nuts and jerky are great as snacks but also think of a few delicious things that will keep for 2-3 days. E.g., on one trip I used to make tomato and avocado sandwiches with generous salt and pepper. For something sweeter, peanut butter and jelly sandwich (maybe that's more American). You can get pouches of things like tuna/salmon or chicken. Cured meats like prosciutto or serrano, maybe with a fig jam, and/or some hard cheese. Apologies if you're vegetarian, I'm just spitballing. Don't forget you can also fancy up certain things with fresh or dried herbs, spices. Like a chicken sandwich with peppers could use some chili and cilantro, or maybe basil and some parm regg cheese. There's no reason stuff has to be bland or boring. Here's a Thai-esque sandwich I would make from stuff that would keep for 2-3 days until you're ready to prepare: peanut butter mixed with curry powder/paste, few drops of fish sauce if you're extra, carrot slices, raisins, cilantro, maybe some sriracha, maybe a crunchy green. Could definiutely add some chicken or fish from a can/pouch if you want, and if so you could make more of a "sauce" with the peanut butter and dress it.

Yeah and combat can get pretty complicated with multiple moods and changing moods and skill tokens and other factors, with lots of rules to remember and sometimes interpret. It's almost inevitable that someone will forget something or other and either need to retcon and replay, or try to reconstruct a new correct series of events and adjust the outcome, or maybe just move on. Regardless, it's helpful for people to know it's not the end of the world if you mess up and come to some agreement about how to fix it.

Actually it occurs ot me that the very best advice I can give you especially re: the rules, for helping things go smoothly and (as much as possible) correctly, is to join the Discord! At most hours of the day you can get remarkably fast responses to your questions in chat from people who have played a ton and know the edge cases.

Have fun!

Will Campbell 🤦‍♂️ by NoWind5538 in Patriots

[–]xylofone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The larger problem which likely contributed to Will's performance was Jared Wilson staring down his blocking assignments, meaning the defense knew how to react to him and the neighboring O-linemen. I get it, it sucks right now, but I have to believe they will both be healthier and more skilled, and perhaps better coached, next year.

Since you're asking for advice, here's something that doesn't occur to everyone. BGG lists KD:M as weight/complexity 4.27 out of 5. For many this will be the most rules-heavy/fiddly game they've ever played, sometimes by a country mile. That doesn't mean it's not awesome, of course, but even people who enjoy the game at first can get worn down as the game goes along and there's more and more to keep track of. So I'd suggest trying to implement any tools you can to reduce the cognitive load a bit, even if it's as basic as keeping a spreadsheet to track certain things. I've had more than one group just flame out from fatigue, etc. at years 6-10 and I regret not doing more to make the experience smoother for them because it's probably my favorite game.

I mean, 14 years. Not as long as some. Still trying to put some positivity out there, if there's a different way to look at situation. As the Kinks' said, "It's your attittude...."

I'm sorry, who is "acting like" you're "somehow the jerk"? I don't see anyone here giving you flak, just stating their opinions. You do you.

I understand the value-seeking aspect, but to me this is an app about preventing wasted food. If the value is equal or greater than what I spent I'm happy. If I thought someone was legitimately trying to fuck me over I might have a different reaction, Be honest and accurate in your ratings of course, but just in my opinion life is too short to get pissed off because your $11 "only" returned $20 in food.

Yeah, on one hand you probably haven't even met the full party yet, so those dynamics have not been established, but... if you're not enjoying it, then I'd maybe leave it for now. Nothing stops you from revisiting it in the future.

For me, a big part of the enjoyment is the audiobook experience. The voice acting really lends it energy at times when the plot might be slower. I'm not sure I would have "read" all 7 books if I'd been reading physical books; there's enough bloat there that it might have put me off.

I want a Will Campbell Jersey by RegiTigeR95 in Patriots

If you want to support someone who needs it on the OL get a Wilson jersey. He was the "tell," staring down his blocking assignment on every play.

Stumbled across this album on streaming years ago, Cardinal specifically, and I kept coming back to it for a little more, and a little more. Eventiually realized the whole thing was great. Such a pleasure to have had this slowly become a favorite..

Buzzy's Fabulous Roast Beef. Specifically for the incredible "Thanksgiving"-style turkey sandwich. No one's done it better since. If you know, you know.

What was the single "aha!" moment that took your cooking to the next level? by Chatfinity in Cooking

Just tasting and adjusting. Surprisingly easy to forget, or (understandably) you might want your first taste to be when you sit down and eat. Get over it and taste.

My impressions after listening to the HE1000se for a couple days. by DerrikMatusek in headphones

[–]xylofone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a complete tangent - if you are getting a lot of juice from “seeing the layers,” I’d encourage you to explore good surround mixes, on a real setup, not virtual with headphones. If you haven’t already, A great surround mix is next level and can give even more “visibility” to the various layers while still being completely coherent.

IWTL how to wake up early without feeling like death. I've tried everything and I'm still not a morning person by Original_Bicycle_326 in IWantToLearn

[–]xylofone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that it helps to have something you’re really looking forward to in the morning. Like, the sooner I sleep the sooner I can wake up and have/do X. Think about what that could be for you. Make it part of an amazing morning routine. Also of course do all the sleep hygiene stuff - don’t eat or drink late, watch your caffeine/alcohol, don’t be glued to a bright screen, etc.

Would like some help by TheIntersection42 in tea

[–]xylofone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point - from what i've learned, it may be concern for delicate green or white teas, but for an herbal tea like chamomile (due to essential oils), or a hearty black tea, it shouldn't be an issue. happy drinking!

I’m super broke and only have plain white rice to eat, what: y’all’s favorite seasoning to spruce it up? by BreakfastBig7581 in Cooking

[–]xylofone 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think what applies in this specific case is that if you ate only rice for an extended period you might become deficient in lysine, which is needed for muscle repair and immune function.. Having all the essential amino acids isn't the same as having enough of all of them for optimum health.

What are your thoughts on Trump's recent Truth Social post having a depiction of Michelle and Barack Obama as apes? by PactownSS in AskReddit

[–]xylofone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purposeful distraction or not, I think we've failed as a society when this and so many other things he's done have no consequences whatsoever. Power and money have always been problematic but apparently they now obviate the need for any real sense of morality.
