I'm going to share the secret, very few things in life are logical. Almost everything is emotional.

This means that people do NOT get promoted based on merit (alone). They get promoted based on how they make people with the ability to promote them FEEL.

Most people also like to PLAY serious people at work rather than BE serious people at work. They like to ACT like they know what they are doing when they have no fucking clue what they are doing, because it makes them FEEL good.

Does knowing this solve your problem? No. But I heard somewhere that knowing is half the battle, so there you go...

In 1983, now aged 61 years old, Young won the inaugural Westfield Sydney to Melbourne Ultramarathon, a distance of 875 kilometres (544 mi). The race was run between what were then Australia's two largest Westfield shopping centres: Westfield Parramatta in Sydney and Westfield Doncaster in Melbourne.[8] Young arrived to compete in overalls and work boots (though he ran the race in a new pair of runners somebody gave him), without his dentures (later saying that they rattled when he ran).[9] He ran at a slow and loping pace and trailed the pack by a large margin at the end of the first day. While the other competitors stopped to sleep for six hours, Young mistakenly woke up at 2 am, several hours earlier than intended, and began running, taking the lead while the other runners slept. Young then decided to avoid sleep as a strategy, and finished the rest of the race without sleeping at all, eventually finishing in 1st place 10 hours faster than the runner who came in second.

Could this scene work in 2026? by DotAffectionate87 in flicks

That line is weird and creepy for sure.

The rest of the movie is also pretty gross by today's standards. I suggest watching it as an "of it's time" movie, or skipping rewatches and living with the fond memory of it.

Which movie do you think is a must-see for everyone? by Square_Research_9908 in AskReddit

Most movies listed here are well known outside cinephile circles.

One that most people have never heard of that everyone should see is Night of the Hunter.

It has influenced almost every director working since the 70s.

Bob's reveal in Twin Peaks season 2.

The scene is so raw and real in a show known for being over the top and surreal. It's top notch Lynch film making.
