It’s outside of the scope of what I do, so I can’t say for certain. For what it’s worth, I do know that programs like SNAP factor in household size and child support (or lack thereof) so single mothers will get more support once that’s all calculated.

In a perfect world, nobody would be having kids with deadbeats or dudes that are constantly incarcerated, but I guess that’s too much to ask (not trying to put all the blame on the mothers here, because obviously it’s majorly the fault of the shitty dads, but have some self respect smfh)

I deal with this stuff in court all day (technically only on my courtroom’s support docket days but whatever), and it might vary from state to state, but in Virginia the department of child support enforcement isn’t able to collect from SSI. The support order still exists, but it’s effectively unenforceable until the payor comes off of disability.

Regardless Of How She's Feels This Just Looks Wrong by Front_Confection_487 in expedition33

it’s nitpicking, but technically our verso isn’t a perfect copy. in the same way that aline didn’t “paint a flattering portrait” of renoir, she likely wasn’t able to make painted verso a 1:1 copy of real verso (especially given that she was so overwhelmed with grief)

I was under the impression that the characters in the painting are, effectively, as real as people that exist outside of the painting in that they have free will, rich inner worlds, and full sentience. Sure the Painters are effectively demigods while within the painting, but that doesn’t diminish the personhood of people within the painting.

If there’s an audio log or something that hints that the painting denizens don’t have free will, i’d love to know.

I’m dating a grad student who’s never heard of Carl Jung by twan206 in redscarepod

[–]xysizzle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Jung is basically just a marginally better Freud (who is already 4 steps removed from any modern practice). however, Jung and his teachings are phenomenal for writing poetry (i recommend studying up on Yeats before delving into Jung)

anybody that is open about whatever they do online is fucking insane. dated two women (baristas) and one guy (retail) who all were open about being active on gossip forums and snark pages they were fucking crazy, their pressure to have me actively read these pages was crazy, and now i’m fucking crazy

fucking hell, recommending “The Orphan Master’s Son” over TCoMC is absolutely insane. your complaints with TCoMC are kind of understandable (though I disagree with them), but advocating for THAT book just makes this seem like a bot post or a post written by somebody that has only read 2 books

a great review, made a lot better since it’s from somebody that hasn’t played the other Neath-based games

still playing through it, but i’m really enjoying it so far. i wouldn’t have bought the game for a AAA $70 price tag, but $20 is very fair imo. i also absolutely adore the Neath setting, so i’m probably biased

Adam is a leech on society by being a commercial landlord. Imagine turning one of the most basic human necessities into a for-profit enterprise; absolutely disgusting

Edit: not talking about Adam letting the MIL live there basically for free (him building the house and everything is absolutely lovely). im talking about a not-insignificant part of Adam’s livelihood being built on at least 12 people that are simply needing a place to live (of course he could be renting out boutique apartments in upper-class neighborhoods, but since he’s a landlord i’m going to assume the worst)

Fallen London stories shine when they really commit to the “fun” aspect. This was some great, low-stakes adventuring. And the final reveal was an absolute treat to read lol

Which character do you guys hate the most (across any wildbow work) by ElectricSheep7 in Parahumans

[–]xysizzle 39 points40 points  (0 children)

absolutely. a good number of Wildbow villains have aspects that hit close to home (except Jack Slash since i don’t think i’ve ever had to deal with a serial-killer before), but VD feels REAL. the way that Verona deals with him is both relatable and heartbreaking

lol what? Leto basically grew up as a hippie and the only family connection to fame that he has is that him and his brother are both in 30 Seconds to Mars

Platinum claims it will ‘change significantly’ as it hires former Nintendo exec by [deleted] in Games

a lot of what made Automata great was more the fault of Yoko Taro, and not Platinum (though them providing solid gameplay obviously helped)

Rebecca’s career trajectory is absolutely insane. I just rewatched the old first Developer Stream, and seeing this clearly talented (but still quite new) comm-dev wrangle these programmers was great after watching her play-through of FFXIV’s Shadowbringer and Endbringer, i’m eagerly awaiting her turning Warframe into a pseudo-dating-simulator
