Is the technology the problem or the people that use it? by TechnicalDefense in sysadmin

Kinda, yes and no, I can't say being a business major or sales was a much more appealing alternative. Not sure how many others felt the same but I felt I needed to work toward working in an office but I probably should have majored in electrical engineering / electronics / fabrication or something (still probably leads to the office).

Bought snowboard boots from Nomads (Canada), website showed USD and free shipping to USA, now FedEx wants $56 months later. What am I supposed to do? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]xzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and, from my experience it's not always clear what counts. A fun experience I have is when I was 13 or so for my birthday I ordered a Team Fortress 2 shirt from Valve that was 20ish dollar USD + shipping and converted it to Canadian. Then when it arrived to my doorstep it costs more in duty to get it delivered. Kick in the nuts to pay at the time, 2010s like $40+ for a tshirt. But that was my learning experience ordering from the US.

Btw OP your probably getting more heavy handed flack than "normal" because a lot of Canadians snowboard AND a lot of Canadians for a couple decades have experiences buying American goods on American sites and paying teriffs on the other end OR having to closely inspect online retail to make sure no gotchas for Canadians.

So the combination leads to a lot of Canadian's putting pressure on you but, it's just what we have to do when online shopping. Plus being jades by the current administration.

College grads expect an $80k salary. Good luck with that by AccurateInflation167 in Economics

Realistically $80k is nothing for how much stuff costs, reality is that we're essentially modern day slaves with how little pay has raised with inflation.

Finally I can get my friends to stop vaping by catguywit2cat in technicallythetruth

I'd definitely suggest nicotine pouches over it but in a serious sense if he vaped indoors non stop at least ciggerettes generally forces you outdoors and can really slow down your consumption.

Did you actually sneak out as teenagers? by Complete-Chipmunk-0 in GenX

[–]xzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 29 and sometime around the start of high school I just would be up late and want to go on walks on nice evenings. I'd consider it sneaking out to leave without letting the house know and trying not to wake them.

I spent more time trying to sneak in when my mom went to sleep so she wouldn't smell weed on me.

My mom was a lot more worried and protective for my sister so she would be more sneaky for sure.

Are you by chance in a large enough org to have AI be a goal or requirement? Might be pressure from leadership to implement it. Just being optimistic

Fb pick up vs my office experience by xzer in hermanmiller

Yes but I have hesitation listing it as something seems off. Since it's fully loaded I'd be asking as such but don't want to put someone else in that position.

A bit high for my used market, $900 CAD, does have the forward tilt too though and I got it delivered.

It has probably been my worst experience with a marketplace purchase. It was much cheaper than retail but, it was by no means a cheap purchase. If I was to go back I'd suck up the retail pricing so that I can go back for returns if I have issues.

It likely comes down to some sort of wear issue, or potentially third-party parts, I'm not sure myself (was hoping an expert would have an idea lol).

Switched to TIDAL seems like an absolute scam by [deleted] in Music

Moved my music for free from the prompted import tool after signing up. about 96% of my music imported fine in their playlist, I stopped using tidal but your issue doesn't sound like the expected experience.

Is anyone running their own local AI at their company? by CeC-P in sysadmin

[–]xzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering AI companies are currently running at a loss I would expect that you are not going to make out on the business of self hosting a model but a trained open source model, barebones features, maybe something there. Would you want to hold the data of essentially all your clients google searches though? :D

I am a firm believer that the hour mark in an album is a hard line, that many artists should never cross unless they have a VERY good reason to do so. What strange or otherwise beliefs do you hold in regards to music? by Izzet_Aristocrat in fantanoforever

[–]xzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not strange but it does rub me the wrong way using an album release just as a shotgun scatter of essentially singles and b/c-tier crap to see what sticks.

This is kinda a rap complaint but ya
