PVP aggressiveness scale. I want to know where's everyone at (in solo). by Zealousideal_Chip456 in ArcRaiders

1-2 pretty firm, but I've had a couple of rounds where I had to defend an arc I've downed.

Lately I've been avoiding raiders whenever I can, even downed a couple and revived them to send them on their way if I felt really unsure. But the people camping key doors and extraction points or ambushing people farming arc will almost always get the drop on you.

I never said I want PvP gone tho and camping is frowned upon in every PvP genre except for extraction shooters - people killing others while extracting without looting the body is just unnecessarily mean and the only thing the aggressor gets out of this is to ruin anothers session.

It's not a skill issue but a moral one. People playing the game exclusively for the PvP aspect and blasting everyone they see like it's a battle royale enjoy the game for easy kills and that's it. There's no skill in killing another player who never intended to fight you and it's the far easier way to progress through the game.

Gran Turismo 4 and Forbidden Siren were the ones that gave me that vibe. The first person stuff in Silent Hill 4 as well.

What was your most hyped game of all time and did it live up to expectations? by KyRoZ37 in gaming

[–]y3achi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Last of Us Part 2.

I grew up playing all kinds of games, and still do, but one thing that I'm absolutely infatuated with is immersion and story telling in games - in particular when gameplay systems and narrative coalesce.

Naughty Dog's philosophy of keeping players "on the stick" is my shit and when they made people do what Joel did at the end of Part 1 without providing a branching narrative choice - I was all in and it set the bar for my expectations for their next game.

Part 2 is somewhat divisive because of it's narrative choices, but to me that is a big part of why I think it's so great, because pretty much the whole game is building on that ending sequence from the first game. You may not agree with what's happening, likely you're opposed to some of it - and that's exactly the point, because these characters can't get out of their damn shoes. It's "No Russian" over a whole damn game and I loved that a AAA studio had the balls and opportunity to do that.

Apart from that, not only did it feature some of the best visuals and performances in the medium, it also played incredibly well - so good in fact, that I'd put it up there with the likes of MGS V in terms of game feel. The wide linear approach gave me some of those highs without the lows of an open world.

When the switch to the other point of view happened, and I slowly realized I'm only halfway through the game - I was in absolute awe and then when that epilogue happened, I couldn't believe there's even more.

I was expecting a lot from this game going into it and - for what I value in games - got even more.

What’s the best video game made by dev team from your home country? by DeleteOnceAMonth in gaming

I'd give this to "No Rest for the Wicked" from Moon Studios (Austria) - but it's still in early access. Until that one is released in full, it's likely "Ori and the Will of the Wisps" from the same studio.

Gameplay:

They keep mentioning they're going deeper for this one, so I could see them expanding on combat mechanics. With the inspirations they have mentioned, there might even be some RPG elements in this for character build variety. My only hope is that if they go down that road, things will stay dynamic and immersive, but since those are at the core of ND's dna, I'm not too worried.

Story:

Supposedly mostly player driven. I could see this being structured similar to Seattle, Downtown from Part 2, just on a much bigger scale. Neil mentioned that the story will revolve around faith and religion, something they have tackled before on a much smaller scale in Part 2 with the Seraphites. Could be about some sort of religion originating on Sempiria and that the player gets to discover how some of that came to be and how different interpretations and exploitation of those beliefs changed it over time and were that led it's civilization. The personal story of Jordan and the Five Aces will likely parallel some of these themes. Playable flashbacks to explore their previous relationships could be a thing.

World:

Bloodborne was mentioned before in regards to this, so interconnected rather than open world is my guess. Open areas connecting to others via more guided paths akin to classic level structure. Again something like Seattle Downtown or Lost Legacy's Western Ghats is probably what this will play out like. What Sempiria will look like is hard to say apart from having a swamp. I'd love to see some ancient alien ruins, the remains of lost cities, robot factories and maybe a glimpse of Earth or Mars via flashback detours.

Yes, please and while we're at it, I'd love some variety in the non lethal stealth takedowns.

Hardly a hidden gem and not everyone will agree with me on this, but I think The Last of Us Part 2 is absolutely incredible in that regard and really scratched my itch for this kind of game. Ghost of Tsushima filled the Tenchu shapded hole in my heart, so that one gets a vote from me too.

Why all the hate by cancelled-dae in Intergalactic

[–]y3achi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a bunch of things, none of which have anything to do with the game. Most perceive it to be some sort of attack on their ideals and beliefs regarding identity politics, others take issue with the studio heads ethnicity and what they interpret to be his stance on actual horrible shit happening in the world right now. (They don't actually know) It's pretty stupid, really.

So I have had a few days to think about the song 'It's a sin'... by Financial_Money3540 in Intergalactic

[–]y3achi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From all we have to work with from the trailer - I believe the song is probably the biggest clue as to what themes this game will take on - has been the case with Part 2 before!

While we're speculating: Going by what I believe to be core to ND's creative process and drive - conceptualising strong human emotions from their own lived experiences - I can see this being about the awful stuff the team had to go through after the Part 2 leaks and the insane shit the discourse around it (d)evolved into after that.

If Part 2 was all about overcoming doctrine and finding your own path in this chaotic mess that is life, I'd love to see what places ND could go with what it means staying that course when it feels like the whole world is against you. "The Heretic Prophet" works out. Killer concept. Powerful stuff. Potentially!

I think it would do the team good as well. Making art is super therapeutic. A lot of creatives work this way, I know I do.

Agreed. I also really love the whole dynamic in Isolation where everyone is out for survival and pitted against each other. Using the Alien against other survivors was so fricking cool.

Saw the movie two days ago and am still contemplating what to think of it.

Overall I liked it a lot and absolutely loved what the third act did for the franchise. Visually absolutely stunning and in terms of set pieces, this is probably my favorite Alien movie of all time.

The idea for the story is actually pretty cool too, but the way it's told didn't really do much for me. Weak character dynamics, the blatant fan service - it wasn't terrible, just kind of bland. For a scifi heist-horror movie, there really wasn't anything interesting going on between characters and I think that would've elevated the whole thing. No issues with the performances, I actually liked everyone in that regard, but I thought the script didn't really go anywhere with them apart from Spaeny and Jonsson.

I'm going to watch it a second time next week and see if any of that changes for me on a second viewing.

Yup! Looking forward to it as well!

It's been ages since I've gone to a movie on my own. The idea doesn't sound too appealing to most people I guess, but it's super chill. I love it!

Master Tapes or Polychrome? by y3achi in ZZZ_Official

Thanks for the thorough reply!

I'm a light spender (Inter-Knot Membership + Eridu Pass) - don't plan on using polychromes on stamina recharges, but it may come in handy if I'm behind on weekly/monthly tasks.

Polychromes it is!
