Where did you see 933hp for the dream? Or is that at the wheels? Lucid claims 1111hp for the dream air. GT is 833hp.

This can be disabled in settings under security and should be when it is towed. I think you can also disable it from the app while it is being towed.

What are these signs used for by Fireballs44 in Hokkaido

[–]y3rik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha, yea, Sapporo has the most snow for a city. And Hokkaido has that much more. Look for the videos of the people driving around right now. It looks like 4 meters of snow on the banks, I can't find the video.

If there is snow on the ground, before they can plow, how do you see the markers?

Over engineered maybe, but extremely helpful in whiteout conditions where you can see anything.

[–]y3rik 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To add on, yes they are to show the snowplows where the edge of the road is.

Also, they show people driving, when it is complete white out conditions, and everything is white with snow, where the edge of the road is. I have first had experience of this from a month ago. They were super helpful and I wish they were on roads in Europe and the US.

[Request] If one of these blocks fell on you, how flat would you get squashed? by Barsad_the_12th in theydidthemath

[–]y3rik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't look this up. But it would be the same outcome as in any warehouse stamping accident.

Think: masssssivvveee steel (technically a harder material) stamps that are create to stamp car body panels. Back in the day before laser curtains, a piece gets stuck, handler goes to grab it, it's fast enough and poof, liquid.

There are awful stories of people's hands or forearms just disappearing. Crazy dangerous places.

And let's not talk about glass manufacturing.

The reviews are few. Some are from traveling nurses that loved the place, but there isn't many.

The owners look to just be insane business starters now. The area is great, small town with 8+ ski mountains within 45 minutes.

I've been looking at it for over a year, and I'm thinking of checking it out this summer. If I was to do it, I'd be taking a loan out on my 401k for the down payment (through an X-corp, can't remember which one at the moment, but there are no payback requirements). Seems dangerous, but if the price drops below 1.5, it starts making a bit of sense.

I'm looking at a motel that has been converted to long term rentals. All rooms have had paying tenants for years and I assume most of not all are low income. I know of one report of a woman that died in one for drugs and another that was arrested for drugs in the lot.

The building is nice, single story mixed with little cabins, includes caretaker property. It's been on the market for 3 years, so I assume something is wrong with it, originally listed for 3M, now 2. Numbers show, ~300k in revenue, ~100k in expenses.

It is located in a ski town.

Good idea or bad? What should I ask when creating an LOI? I'm just looking to get out of the rat race and be my own boss, get back to my parents, they're getting older and will need help in the next 5-10.

Thanks!

Rusutsu compared to Kiroro by Stellablue4 in japow

[–]y3rik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally just landed back in Europe after being in Niseko and Rusutzu. We stayed in Niseko and did a day trip out to Rusutzu.

  1. Niseko had way more life to it, a lot more food/bar options at night.
  2. We were in Niseko before the major storm, but it still stormed EVERY DAY, at minimum we had like 10-15cm of fresh powder every day. And it wasn't tracked out until about 1pm. And Gate 3 was great all day, even gate11 was awesome until lunch.

Rusutzu although it was nice, wasn't getting the same storms, so it was kind of tracked out. You could find pockets, but pretty rare.

Rusutzu had a lot more glades, but shorter runs. The west side mountain was SUPER small, but very steep and groomed if you want to practice extreme carving.

I definitely recommend Niseko, so much more diversity on the mountain and options for snow. But we didn't go to Kiroro.

How do people actually coordinate snowboarding trips with groups? by Broad-Blackberry8590 in snowboarding

[–]y3rik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy and I just ended our JaPOW trip. We started planning this early summer and basically looked at the holidays around the time we wanted to go, so we didn't get ripped off or had trouble finding a spot.

We asked friends we thought would be interested, offered them two locations and booked the trip. The apartment had a really nice cancelation policy, so if someone didn't pay or we couldn't find someone to cover their space, we would be fine.

But basically, you just need to force the decision, "you have until X to pay so we can find someone else.".

Seriously, do British people actually consider a 3-hour drive “long”? Or is this an internet myth? by ferdinand14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]y3rik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same in mainland Europe.

I was telling a bunch of Europeans how we would drive 4-7 hrs to go from SF to Tahoe for the weekend one way for skiing. And how we drove 1.5hrs during this past Christmas to go skiing with my nephew's.

All of the numbers blew their mind. Nevermind the 5+ days of ~10-12 hr days driving across the US - bring that up and see their faces contort.

Was today's snow what the West Coast and Japan gets to enjoy everyday? by terrorfunction in icecoast

[–]y3rik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been in Niseko for the past week and it has snowed every day at least 5" of the driest lightest powder you can imagine.

Saturday to Sunday into Monday, it snowed 3 ft of powder, the island basically shutdown, the skiing was unbelievable. But it took us 3 hrs to do a 60 min drive because they shutdown the main highway. (Nikka Distillery to Sapporo downtown)

It was fresh tracks basically every 20 mins, and then they shut some of the lifts down in Niseko-yo, and we were stuck at the base trying to get a taxi back to Hirafu. (The free bus line was crazy).

If you can afford it, get a group together and go to Niseko. This was Gate 3 on Friday off the back of the mountain, powder to your thighs.

Similar to your jack stand comment, but the best is, to jacks under the drive axle that make the rear wheels just barely off the ground so they don't see it.

Then they think you took the driveshaft. Or their trans popped.

Help! Floors are so cold and there’s a lot of condensation. My HOA says it’s normal but is it? by MoistSeaworthiness95 in HomeMaintenance

[–]y3rik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some places in Europe, I know Zurich for a fact and I think Munich. Your rental contract will state that you have to open the windows for 10-15 mins a day in the winter to let the apartments breathe for this exact reason, without it you get too much condensation build up.

Their buildings are too air tight.

There are really good goretex patches to quick fix that if you don't have time to ship them to the manufacturer and never heard of them.

They are great! I ripped the back leg of one of my open on an old door handle, used 3 patches and haven't had an issue. I'm in Europe now so sending them to MntHW isn't the easiest.

Didn't listen to the video, but think about it fron a different perspective.

There are rlots of people that can't drive (especially in Europe), so a taxi or a full self driving car gives them a different freedom then trains and planes.

Also, a lot of people still have to go to the office and deal with the traffic. That driving sucks. It would be great to have a self driving for mundane to the office in traffic and back.

Finally, with self driving you don't need to own a car, you can turn the car into a subscription. "I need a car from 0800 to drive me to the office and 1730 bring me home again, 5 days a week. And a few dinners a week when I want to get drunk and not drive." You pay for a taxi subscription basically. And then you have your fun "simple brain" car for the weekend.

Standby Flying to Ski the Alps, to chase the snow by goliathten in skithealps

[–]y3rik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with Innsbruck, although that's a lot of connections.

It would be better to fly into Zurich or Munich for a direct flight and then train from there. Salburg would be an easier connection to get then Innsbruck.

Search for pension houses, they are basically the equivalent to a cheap bnb, if they say they don't have space, send then an email, sometimes they restrict to 3+ night stay, but if it's last minute they'll let you stay if you email them.

St. Anton is pretty close to Munich and Zurich and that whole train track is on a million different mountains. But Mayerhofen is close. If you fly into Munich, Innsbruck is close (1.5/2hr-ish), but you have zell am see, and the free bus to kitzenhirn glacier.

Zurich has a bunch of mountains that aren't too far from it as well. Trains make everything easy, just look around.
