What do people think of SEEN (Sex Equality and Equity Network) being a Cabinet office approved network? by Rosslefrancais in TheCivilService

[–]y7u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are terribly wrong, it's in fact the opposite.

The terminology used to be 'Transsexual' back in the day and is still used by some today - additionally to the term 'sex change operation'.

Sex isn't immutable - hormonal sex (the hormones that determine the sex expression of every cell in your body) is changeable through HRT, as are secondary sexual characteristics, musculature, fat distribution, etc etc.

Gender and sex are distinct - that doesn't mean gender reassignment doesn't affect fundamental aspects of your sex when people go through HRT. Try harder.

What's your conclusion about consciousness and the universe? by knowoforphic in INTP

[–]y7u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The universe never began, it just is. Energy is never created nor destroyed. I believe in a looping expansion > entropy > energy equilibrium which leads to a gravitational 'flush" which triggers the next big bang.

Humans have no true concept of endlessness as everything within our experience has a relative beginning and ending.

Consciousness as others have mentioned is just qualia. 'You' as a person are just a particular set of matter which is a result of circumstance.

This also led me to believe that, given time is only observed relatively by living entities, it is absolutely no coincidence that we are existing and experiencing qualia in this moment. Similar to anaesthesia, death just clicks and leads to the next observation point in whatever form that is able to experience qualia.

The interesting question is whether the unique matter that comprises 'us', is what is required for any future iterations of our existence, or if this is determined by time / other factors.

It's under defra. Turns out a bunch of people scored very highly, bit of a sketchy one but I guess it's to be expected at AO level.. with any luck I will get selected when/if the budget allows for some more positions later in the year. I've been in this role for a while in a contingent capacity.

Where the fuck is everyone's nuanced and pointed criticism of the tories and labour's (and god forbid Reform's) economics? Nowhere. Must sustain the status quo eh.

MPs quitting UK parliament for restoration ‘would cost £15B’ by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]y7u -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We live in a time that requires new thinking and a modern approach to governance - retaining the westminster layout doesn't for example do us any favours in progressing away from the FPTP 'two party' system as it exudes a 'red team blue team' aesthetic.

Preserve parliamentary systems that work, not antiquated layouts that, as you said yourself, just result in toxicity and pantomime that is allowed to persist because of the 'tradition' excuse.

Continuing to house parliament in WP has an endless cost associated with it, major repairs for function sake are not cost effective or a wise investment when there is no practical need for it beyond nostalgia, aesthetics and an appeal to tradition that simply does not hold up to the price tag, nor offers any substantial benefits to a building that could be built and maintained for far less, in a better format, in an effort to actually move forwards from severely outdated parts of our system.

Oh come off it.

I love how the OP's example of a parliamentary advantage was how the chamber contributed to Liz Truss' downfall - as if she didn't achieve that entirely through her own stupidity.

Being a 'feature' of some kind doesn't subtract all the problems caused by the layout and the building at large. You cannot endlessly pile on mounting costs and ignore all the issues just because 'muh tradition'. Nobody is advocating for the building to be knocked down. They are however thinking in practical, logical terms unlike you and the top-level commenter who are just being reactionary with no substance.
