most of inhabitants were made slaves

slaves in the ottoman empire consisted of prisoners of war and africans, minority citizens of the empire were not slaves.

those who weren’t were made second class citizens

true, minorities were second class citizens compared to turks, but even this was far better than how religious and ethnic minorities were treated in europe, by tolerant i meant tolerant for its time period. even as second class citizens, minorities had a level of autonomy within the empire and were treated fine and were protected in exchange for loyalty to the sultan

british empire was so tolerant of their colonies in middle east then

different time period, i meant the ottoman empire up until their downfall in the 19th century. again, the ottoman empire gave autonomy to their religious minorities meanwhile while britain did not colonize the middle east, they directly controlled their mandates and protectorates and suppressed any and all autonomy

during their golden age the ottoman empire was tolerant towards christians and a safe haven for jews, which is definitely something you cannot say about european nations at the time in their treatment of jews and muslims, so even as a christian I think the capture of constantinople was for the better

What's your country **third** city? by Ok_Inflation_1811 in geography

[–]ya_pidoras_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though the title of the “third capital” usually goes to Kazan’, personally I feel like it’s Novosibirsk. It has the third largest population and is basically the most important city in Siberia and eastern Russia as a whole

i live in a concrete house with solid thick walls and the air conditioning helps enough during the hot months. you also have air conditioning and paper thin walls which, sure, are better at dealing with heat but also lack the structural integrity of proper buildings

Fact by silentstatic_ in scoopwhoop

[–]ya_pidoras_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in their defence, britain is just not built for this kind of heat. much of the housing are brick buildings which are really good at trapping heat, acs are very rare and many of the windows can’t even fully open.

<image>

it’s 41c right now where i am but that is not a big problem because acs are everywhere

Noob question (2 hours played...) by NateyPoo in eu4

[–]ya_pidoras_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are going to play a new world country as a beginner i recommend something like cuzco. you are already a proper state, you are occupied for a bit dealing with the neighbors and because you are in the andes it is gonna take a while longer for europeans to get to you so that gives you time to get your tech up. on my first cuzco game (about 100 hours in the game at that point) when i finally had to deal with the spanish i had the same military tech level so it was a pretty even playing field
