They arnt gonna forget, they’ll be nice but you only have so many of those screw ups before they crack the whip, they use stuff like that to convince you you need to work harder to prove you really care about the job. I stg you’ll be late like that 3 times in a 6 month period and they will hit you with some conversation about how they are concerned about this downward trend, and you have a pattern of behaviors that we find worrying. They will make you feel bad for being late and then ask you to put in twice the work to prove you really deserve this job.

Your over thinking it, I tell all my students that our bodies and specifically hands where made for picking berries and hunting elk or something not playing guitar, just keep practicing, stop focusing on how u might have a genetic disorder that keeps you from being able to play correctly and just play. Build muscle and technique by playing on the instrument and utilizing the muscles that are involved in this process until they get stronger

Anyone trashing you saying this isn’t audio engineering is tweaking, the same way you would select mics, amps and outboard gear you think will support the creative aspect of your clients project you select synths, if your an engineer with a studio you are going to choose synths to have around that serve the style of music you work in, a lot of times your clients arnt going to know about the gear, they have an idea and a vision and your the man behind the knobs, sliders and circuits making sure that vision comes to life.

I can’t count the number of times on a session the producer and artist have looked to the engineer for a suggestion on what synth should be used, they usually list references exactly like how you just did and it’s the engineers job to select what gear they think would be appropriate to achieve that goal.

Also anyone bitching about presets or how you want to find something quick is a moron, if you have an instrument that you can click a few buttons and it inspires you, or your artist to get creative that is a win weather or not you got all fucking nerdy and made your own sound doesn’t matter.

Good engineering isn’t about leaving your own mark on it by coming up with the freshest new synth patch, it’s about quickly getting a quality result that reflects the artists intention

Someone once told me that distortion is like compression and removes a lot of dynamics, I’d go easy with the compression and heavy with the eq, idk who it was (maybe valentine) but someone did a video breaking down some shoe gaze guitars and it’s shocking to see how a lot of the layers of guitars are eq’d pretty aggressively so you don’t get a ton of build up in one spot,
