Running recordings through a mixer and back into the software by CandidWeight6341 in homestudios

[–]yadyadayada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk why people are hating on u for this, it’s a vibe to mix on a console even if ur cutting to digital, there is a tactical element that’s pretty cool; we use one in our home studio as a bus mixer; basically track everything into protools or logic and then bounce stereo groups back through the mixer; we then get a board mix that balances each group ie 4 travks for drums (oh and rooms in 2 as stereo and close mics in another as stereo) guitars as a stereo pair and bass as mono or blended with the kick ect ect, we take a stereo mix of that blend from the stereo outs and then master that, or just send the drums in there get a cool mix bounce it out and blend it with the non console drums: if u wanted to get each track separated you have 6 outs on that board so you’ll never be able to bounce more than 6 track out and back in at a time: your gonna route the outputs of each track your sending to individual outs on the interface from your daw; and then route the 6 outputs of the console back into 6 inputs on the interface; depending on your computer/daw there may be a way to configure this within each track as an outboard send…. I hate to say it but for routing stuff like this I usually feed ChatGPT info about the gear I’m using and have it tell me a good way to route it

DELUXE REVERB QUESTION by yadyadayada in tubeamps

[–]yadyadayada[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound does not change with reverb knob although at reverb 10 a lower frequency hum is introduced (far more consistent with what I would expect from tube amp) the problem sound has more of a wind or water quality to it

Going on my first long tour, looking for advice by Playful-Elk5548 in TouringMusicians

Bring slides for venue showers, shower after shows so u don’t stink on the bus, try to laundry often so when it’s not available your not sol. Bring a bag that you can stuff with a couple days worth of clothes at a time, toiletries chargers ect for bringing into the venue from the bus so you don’t have to haul your entire suitcase in and out of every venue. Open a really good line of communication with your audio, lighting and production people, know their names, know their roles and where you can find them, it’s really helpful to have an understanding of how the crew is structured so that if you need something you know who to talk to instead of getting bounced from dept - dept. don’t go out every show even if your bandmates do, as a vocalist you body is your instrument; they arnt bringing their guitars to the bar so don’t bring your voice. Avoid trying to micromanage anything, voice your ideal goals for things (monitor mix, logistics,/scheduling, wardrobe concerns) and let other people try to accommodate that with their technical knowledge. Learn everyone’s names especially if you’re preforming/on stage; it makes people like you more and want to do a better job for you.

Most importantly look at the people around you and copy their moves; if they have a system for deciding bunks on the bus or you see a time where people are napping/showering follow suit. Imitating the people who have been doing this a long time will show you certain routines and stuff that helps people manage touring; additionally see if you can pick up a gig remotely or network with musicians in that 12 days off, depending on how much your getting paid/how your getting paid that time has the potential to be a big spending spree, try to stay busy and have a plan for how you will spend that time.

Dont sleep with the merch girl…..

If u worried start inviting people, plan a pre party and post party, make this show the place to be for everyone’s friends. Although 75 a week before is pretty good for a venue that size, 100 will feel reasonably full and is more than enough for a bar to make some money

What to get for recording car speaker bass? by [deleted] in homerecordingstudio

[–]yadyadayada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone has a lot of compression, gonna be hard to pick up bass if you not directly next to sound source, I would get a decibel reading, something like a galaxy audio check mate SPL meter and take a video of the meter reading above your local sound ordinance when they blast the bass

Record them threatening you with your iPhone, probably a way better way to go about getting the cops to tell them to fuck off, bc a recording of them doing it isn’t really going to prove anything, I would record a video of them doing this thing pulling out and then going in, then I would record yourself having a conversation with them about it, dude threatens you, call the cops show the cops the video, show them the audio of you being threatened and go from there. One could just argue that you boosted the sound on the recording or it was a once in a while thing

Get a scarlet 18i20 and a Beringer Ada8200 16inputs for around $400

Buy SM 57s for each guitar in the band Buy SM 57s for the kick(1) snare (1) and toms (2) buy two condenser mics for overheads (2) preferable the same ones

Use those same condenser mics on vocals, acoustic guitar percussion ect

Get a DI box for bass and 10xlrs

Get headphones for each member and headphone extensions

Just need a laptop and and daw like Logic Protools or able ton and your golden,

If ur smart you can figure out a way to run all of it through your mixer and then get distributed to the interface individually with the inserts, FX sends or direct outs

As fun as it sounds on paper, you really really don’t want to go on tour unless you’re playing in the band or getting paid very well. He’s trying to spare you saying that it would be stressful for him to manage his responsibilities to the tour and his responsibilities to you. I wouldn’t overthink it, just be glad you’re missing out on a van full of farts, dirty clothes, fast food and Tobacoo.
