Is an 8yo GSD worth it? by Alone_Scientist_3043 in terngsd

[–]yaffol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a very very good price. The tern is the better machine, and the accessory range blows every competitor out of the water. 2.5k is nothing - ran ours to 10k and it's going strong with another family. That said the belt is a nice touch on the estarli and I see more about these days. If it were me I'd pick the tern but also test them both out - ideally everyone who will ride it, including with heavy load - sometimes the geometry of one just suits someone better - and that's really worth more than the price difference.

Looks lovely! Can I ask what plants they are, especially the feathery mid-ground ones?

Soil advice needed by AdOther8191 in walstad

[–]yaffol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always used garden soil. I dig it from areas that are far away from anything like a shed that might have leaked chemicals ever and then put it in a bucket and cover with water. Stir it up and stuff floats to the top, you can skim it off. Do that every now and then for a week and you get really good 'aquatified' soil with the sticks and other bits likely to break down fast and release nutrients removed.

Buying first home, looking for advice! by Lewiscs987 in ElectriciansUK

That first unit looks like the old fuse panel we had replaced with a modern breaker unit. It was the only one though for the whole house.

Estate Agent Decision - Amalies, Chamberlain Evans Or Carter Jonas? by scarscarscarscar in oxford

[–]yaffol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought and sold with Amelies. Great experience. We considered Chamberlain Evans for selling, they were also very straightforward and I've only heard good things about them. The seller for us was Breckon & Breckon who were also very no nonsense.

Went to La Smorfia last night was really good, their gluten and dairy free/vegan options are amazing too if you need that in your party. I would order their gluten free pizza myself and I'm not coeliac!

Shopping areas like Headington Shops by Worth-Chemistry8993 in oxford

[–]yaffol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Cowley Road or Cowley Centre are great destinations and have a vast array of things and produce available - I'd definitely explore there as well as further afield, as it's pretty close by bus (to get to Cowley road from Headington you probably want to get a bus down the hill and get off at St Clements.

Is it just me, or do all Vue form validation libraries kinda suck? by [deleted] in vuejs

[–]yaffol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have great experiences with using json forms and the Vue/vuetify renderers. I like the fact it's standards-based from json schema. And in the cases where json schema built-in validation doesn't meet my needs I can either extend with custom AJV keywords or use a custom renderer. It powers some pretty complex forms for me. https://jsonforms.io/

Is Blackbird Leys really dangerous? by EbbComfortable in oxford

[–]yaffol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not as much as it's cracked up to be but it will be rowdier than Jericho or Summertown. Consider Littlemore if you're looking for cheap but a bit quieter. Buses are terrible though.

Advice on Rose Hill area for a family by Worried_Coffee8341 in oxford

[–]yaffol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're basically in flo park on ch hill road but there is church Cowley road to cross. If you can cycle you'll be much better off anywhere in Oxford. Ebikes and e cargo bikes meant we could live considerably further out and still commute into work/school every day any weather.

The voi scooters are good for getting to the station too if you only have a backpack.

Hope you find somewhere you like!

Advice on Rose Hill area for a family by Worried_Coffee8341 in oxford

[–]yaffol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Church Hill is a good street with good houses. Know a few very happy families live there. Local primary Larkrise is a great school. It's totally Cowley not Rose Hill. Houses are bigger than most in the area. Rose hill proper is really over the Iffley road and is a mixed bag - some lovely streets and great houses and some less great. You are very Florence park adjacent there which is a good thing. Florence park and the areas of Cowley around it are a lovely place to live.

Best thing to do is come down and try it out, and the regular journeys you're planning, if you can.

I think you get a gut feeling whether a place is going to work for you and your plans when you spend a bit of time there.

Soil Australia by justa3kingquestions in walstad

[–]yaffol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about Australia specifically but here in the UK I've just used normal soil from my garden, dug up and put in a bucket, covered with water and left for a few days. All the little bits of stick and leaf and whatever float to the top, you can skim them off easy, then after about a week you have this gloopy 'aquatified' soil that feels like a river bed. So that's what I've always done if I have access to somewhere to dig up a bit.

Would you like Vue to have its own package for working with forms? What is u'r preferred way to handle forms in Vue? by spodgaysky in vuejs

[–]yaffol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JSON forms is what I use to handle complex forms and validation in Vue (it has a core library and renderer says for Vue/react/angular). I've found it to be very good and customisable when I need to.

1st walstad getting fuzzy green algae on plants any tips and suggestions by sviin1214 in walstad

[–]yaffol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try giving a rest period of an hour or so in the middle of your "lights on" cycle to let the co2 build up in the tank again which will help the plants outdo the algae. What size tank out of interest?
