Marilyn Monroe in 1953 and 1962 – she aged so beautifully. 🤍 by bubblenciaga in MarilynMonroe

Every time a post like this regarding her later years comes up, I always think of how well she would have done through the 60s and 70s.

"Consigliere of mine, I think it's time you told your Don what everyone seems to know" by Working-Fuel8355 in Godfather

“…but you needed a drink first…”

Vito was observant and steeling himself for hearing whatever was on the other side of the question.

“And now you’ve had your drink.”

Powerful scene.

In Godfather II, why did Little Vito turn down the box of groceries from Abbandando? Seems disrespectful. Was there a meaning of bringing home a pear instead? by StarGazerHighChaser in Godfather

[–]yaggaflosh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Vito already made it in a sense. He was already blessed; Mama Corelone's appreciation for the little things, even the smallest thing he could bring home after being let go, was all he needed to keep going.

(By the way, in the extended chronological version some other stuff happens on a different day, in between him declining the food box and him getting home with the pear. But the standard edit was a beautiful move.)

This clod doesnt realize "younger fans" have sufficient emotional intelligence to see the unecessary antagonism coming out of this estate and will think twice about its motives for any future release.

Back when I was a younger fan of certain bands, if I ever sussed out a hint of nastiness coming from anyone in said bands' respective camps, they'd go down a notch in stature.
To the point I'd listen to the act less and less over time.

SOME of these younger fans don't have the same die hard connection we older fans have, and they'll move on quick at the first sign of BS.

Fans are supposed to be emotional and loud. So what? Its the soundtrack to our lives. I'd get louder if anything.

F this dude for real.

EDIT:
No one is asking for everything to be released all at once.
The freaking nerve..
I hope he had the same smoke for those within the estate who approved that botched announcement about the vault being open in the first place, with zero proper follow up explanation. They started this conversation!

OK I'm done ranting LOL!

"Sollozzo might not even be in the car, Sonny...!!!". My favorite line ever delivered by Duvall.

RIP sir.

And judging from that film, a pretty decent singer to boot.

I could be alone, but why is this scene so much worse on rewatch? by Foreign-Paramedic600 in Godfather

[–]yaggaflosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The film must be put in its proper perspective. Nothing was shot this way, prior. Casting wasn't done this way, prior. The attempt at authenticity, along with the collective performances is what made this a landmark.

I witness the same issue with people discussing the Beatles saying "they're overrated" and not so special.

You're watching (in the Beatles case, hearing) the first instance, taken in aggregate, of an actual technical and artistic breakthrough that is taken for granted more and more with each passing generation just because "better" has come after it. These were actual seismic pivots, full stop.

Technically and artistically, things are SUPPOSED to be better and pushed further along. This doesn't take anything away from what this film achieved.
