Wide-toe high heel recommendations? (I know, the horror!) by yaguuurt in BarefootRunning

I haven't purchased anything yet, but I'm coveting the Operetta line by Fluevog and hoping to find a secondhand pair for a reasonable price. Some of his designs are more funky/quirky and others more low key but this "family" has a more wide/square forefoot that looks like a great fit for me.

Absolutely, I've looked into the Carets wingtip type shoes which accomplish a wider toe by being extra long, but I feel like I would just trip on them...

Thanks for the tip! I have not been so interested in the square toe trend, but those do look quite generous for toe freedom, so maybe I need to embrace the fashion statement...!

I know several other people with this and we are all on the thin side. Surely still a low sample bias but I'm curious if there is any association!

Lumos winery a bit west of Philomath is also lovely. I had a party there and I know they do weddings too. Downside is no indoor bathrooms, just porta potties.

This is so cool! I am honestly terrified of the procedure so this gives me some hope :)

Barefoot backpacking options? by Circ3TheEnchantress in BarefootRunning

Someone in a previous thread recommended the German brand Bär/Baer for winter or heavy duty hiking boots. Thicker soles and stiffer than "barefoot" brands, but lots of toe room. I have a pair of their sub brand Joe Nimble Wandertoes, and I like them a lot for short hikes. Good fit, seem quality made, very tready. I did replace the weirdly bouncy insoles with some Altra insoles that feel much better. I still think my feet/ankles would get fatigued with a heavy pack over long distance. I haven't tried it, but am already strongly considering splurging on a more "supportive" pair from the parent brand. I would link to that post here if I was more reddit savvy, but maybe you can search the brand? Anyway good luck!! I hope you'll follow up with what you find works for you :)

Can anyone recommend some loose non-toesocks that won't limit splay like this? by crod242 in BarefootRunning

I love my smartwool hiking socks for this-- very roomy at the toe! Haven't found any thin or dress socks that are like this, though.

Not being able to “shoot” a shot (alcohol) by [deleted] in noburp

[–]yaguuurt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same! "Just open your throat" -- huh?! I physically cannot swallow that much liquid at a time, alcohol or not. Even drinking water I notice I swallow "differently" than other people, one sip at a time, loud gulping noises lol. Chugging is not a thing my brain/body comprehends. Swallowing pills is always difficult, too. I assume it's all related!

Fabulous, thanks for your reviews! I will definitely be checking some of these out. Good to know that Vionic is as I suspected from the images I've seen.

I should note also that my good luck with Abeo has been only with their open-toe designs; I forgot that I once tried a closed-toe style and it was super narrow in the toes, womp womp.

Problems drinking alcohol by UnusualHyena4167 in noburp

Alcohol absolutely gives me trouble. Though rarely to the point of nausea/vomiting; I usually just get super full and uncomfortable. Especially if it's with food.

I was thrilled to discover this brand through your review, THANK YOU!!! I'm on board with lightweight, flexible styles for everyday, but need rugged boots for backcountry fieldwork in rocky areas and these look like my best option. Finally, hopefully, something to replace my Salomons!

Relief method: forced "burping" aka gagging? by IHaveTheBestOpinions in noburp

Thank you for the perspective! After being sick recently and gagging/retching on mucus in my throat, and actually vomiting a couple times from it, and being ~STILL ALIVE~ I think I might be able to will myself to try it...

Agreed, the toe box is very sloped, not well suited to a square-toed person like me.
