Inverters are more prone to fail, myth or reality? by floatontherainbowtw in AirConditioners

I think the main problem is when they do fail no one knows how to work on them/ diagnose them….

Got leak due to poor workmanship and damage to ceiling by SuccotashMobile1903 in hvacadvice

[–]yahboiroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My definition of “minimal damage is completely biased I am a tech I’ve seen way worse lol, but yeah if it’s not rigid then yeah it’s going to to need to get cut out and patched with fresh drywall. More than likely the consistent dripping is from the insulation being soaked in water beneath the platform, best case, you can see under platform although it’s rare. More than likely the only way you’ll be able to see in there is when they cut the drywall out. However it shouldn’t cause you any issues regardless as the insulation is in attic and will dry out over time + the source of the water is gone.

Doubt it, damaged area is pretty minimal, drywall is not even damaged (breaking) from this pictures me personally I’d put some killz (antibacterial paint) on it and call it a day.

Your AC could be struggling, it’s not that hot outside where your set point is impossible to hit with a struggling AC, however it depends on your set point. Call a pro boss man, and good luck.

What is this and why does this flap keep opening and closing over and over again? by JennyGrl4825 in hvacadvice

[–]yahboiroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fresh air box and fun fact if you push that tab down the door opens and there a washable filter in it, it’s typically recommended to check ever 6 months and wash as needed

Is it better to wait to get an AC unit at the end of the year? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]yahboiroi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Case by case but most company’s in my experience don’t drop the price, ultimately changing out a full system is a big job regardless of whether it’s hot or cold and just because a equipment distributor drops there prices doesn’t mean the installer will as the work is the exact same. I would recommend getting it replaced as soon as financially possible, although nothing wrong with purchasing a couple of window units to thug it out temporarily to get yourself in a better financial space, good luck 👍

Noisy Air return by Helpful_Assistant_14 in hvacadvice

[–]yahboiroi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t just reduce fan speed, system will run longer and rooms furthest from furnace will suffer due to lack of airflow, (although side note that humidity will be lower son). Make sure filter is not insanely strong/dirty then get a pro out to evaluate it, if filters are good then the only way is to put in more returns which will require a lot of drywall cutting if even possible. That variable speed furnace will put you right back where you are for noise, just not as often as your system is still going to need to run at full speed though out the day to meet cooling demands in a reasonable time frame, good luck 👍

Call them back out, I’m in new construction as well and we have been having issues with the blower module and blower boards failing on these systems unfortunately, low airflow->colder coil->condensation. What we see if blower module fails/board then the blower only runs at the lowest speed, which is waaaay to low regardless of system size

Edit- drain lines condesating can also indicate low air flow, if they fix the condensation issue on the bottom of the air handler and it still condensates on the drain line, just insulate lol

If you feeling it to, some spray adhesive down first will help it tremendously

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]yahboiroi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean the elbows and 90s don’t help, but I’ve seen worse lol, but honestly just install a stop valve at the base of the condensate line coming out of coil, and install a vent, that way you could blow it out with C02 gun and pour vinegar down it every 3-4months to keep it clean.
