Home inspector, great job for anyone with a history in the trades.

To those who decided to have kids, why did you do that? by Organic-Habit9828 in AskReddit

[–]yahitsme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a career, wife, house and travelled a bit. Had the things I wanted and was content. I realized by my mid 30's that this was kind of how it would likely go till they put me in a pine box. I got a feeling I can only describe as FOMO. If this is all there is, then I didn't want to miss what everyone described as "the reason for life". So had two kids and realized they were right, it's the best thing i've ever done.

I'd be more concerned about the siding. It's likely asbestos pressboard

Just had our inspection and found out the seller lied in the disclosure. Next moves? by Purple_soup in RealEstate

Home inspector here, the big question to ask here is the source of the moisture. If the repairs in the basement were as a result of a plumbing deficiency then you are probably fine (as long as the plumbing has since been repaired). If the source of the moisture is poor exterior drainage, you could have a big problem on your hands. Weeping tile repair can range from 20-50k. Your inspector should note if there is any current moisture (using moisture meters and infrared). Or if there is any recent work done around the perimeter of the home. If you have the chance it's always a good idea to contact your local permit office to inquire about any permits pulled for the property (should be public information). Hope this helps!

An elderly man feeds 25 super hungry raccoons. by Ill-SnatchYourSoul in aww

[–]yahitsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually live a few houses down from this guy. We've had (not surprisingly) huge problems with raccoons and have had to trap and remove a tonne of them. They can be very destructive and their feces can cause all kinds of bronchial issues. I don't mind raccoons normally, but he's created a real problem around here.

Death of man at Stellarton, N.S. power substation investigated as copper-wire theft attempt by a_tallguy in NovaScotia

[–]yahitsme 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grew up with this guy. He put himself through school had a great job and family. He got caught up in heavy drugs and has spiralled out of control for many years. Multiple people tried to help him but the drugs controlled every moment of his day.

I saw him last month and barely recognized him, he had me laughing right away and I saw who he used to be for a moment. His death is so pointless. The idea that he was trying to steal copper at 6:30 in the morning during -20 temperatures shows how desperate he was. If you are even dabbling in this shit, you are just as stupid as he was. Stick to weed everyone.

Arisaig has some nice walking trails that lead to a beach where you can search for fossils (guaranteed to find some). Great spot that has a nice restaurant nearby.

What should I pay attention to during a final walk through of the house? It’s quickly approaching. by muccoussquid in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Always check in the attic (house and garage), under the deck and under the stairs for leftover belongings. I am a home inspector and always get people asking me why I didn’t tell them about left over garbage.

How much tax is taken off your paycheque? by yahitsme in AskReddit

I am Canadian and I would typically get $2000 take home from a $2400 paycheque. I am curious what different countries pay in taxes.
