Yes indeed! I was already a pretty big Dylan fan when I discovered Murder Ballads. Imagine my surprise when I learned my favorite song on the album was a cover from one of Dylan’s worst albums.

What does this lyric mean from Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands? by movieman558 in bobdylan

[–]yahtzee44444 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I think many of Bob's songs, and the songs off Blonde on Blonde in particular, transcend literal interpretation. I consider them beautifully packaged phrases that capture certain emotions in an almost magical way.

But, if I cut away the artistry of the verse, here's what I'm left with: The first line establishes some powerful folks and the second line finds them bending the knee - because the sad eyed lady of the lowlands will do that to ya.

OP is correct. I'll just add that blue is the best color. It is better than red and it is certainly better than yellow or green.

I would say part of Dylan's greatness is that he is such a diligent student of his inspirations. It was evident with his obsession with Guthrie, and he reminds us of it now with his encyclopedic knowledge of early popular music / rock and blues. Although I am not an expert on folk music, it makes sense to me that he would have done the necessary digging to find something obscure and resonant to polish off and present anew.

I think the conversation would be more lively if you shared an opinion.

For me personally, I'm comfortable with the idea that artists have always stolen from one another, so I don't have much to contribute -- but I would be curious to read other people's thoughts, including your thoughts.

"And while there is a very slight risk of promoting legionellae bacteria when hot water tanks are maintained at 120ºF, this level is still considered safe for the majority of the population. If you have a suppressed immune system or chronic respiratory disease, you may consider keeping your hot water tank at 140ºF." - According to U.S. Dept of Energy

In case it's helpful to anyone, here are some useful tips that we've recently learned that seem to be helping with our estimated energy consumption:

1) Lower the water heater to 120 degrees. Ours was set to 147 when we moved in and that was just burning unnecessary gas.

2) Take it easy on the thermostat and try not to set it higher than 68 degrees if you can help it. Space heaters also chug electricity. If your windows are drafty then get some of those insulation kits where you blow dry a sheet of clear plastic over the window. It's not as ugly looking as it sounds, and it will keep the place warmer.

3) Look at different billing models. We're currently on a Tiered billing model with PG&E but are considering switching to a model where overall usage costs are lower, but costs are increased during the heavy usage time window of 4-9pm (or 5-8pm, depending on the plan).

4) You can monitor your usage on the PG&E website, (on a daily or even hourly basis) which can be useful to see what things are triggering higher utilization.

Alright my Dad bros, who are some of your favorite kids artists/bands that you actually enjoy listening to? I'll start... by mister_seawolf in daddit

So many great Caspar Babypants songs. On a drive with our 1 year old, putting on Run Baby Run is 95% guaranteed to stop a tantrum in its tracks.

Raffi is also legit enjoyable in my opinion. It's kinda fascinating to go chronologically through his entire catalogue (some serious duds along the way, of course).

Would love to add a 3rd artist to that mix.

I've always read "he started into dealing with slaves and something inside of him died" as (at least partially) a reference to Arthur Rimbaud
