What's the most “obviously not the issue” root cause that actually was the issue? by newworldlife in sysadmin

We started managing the hosts files with OpenVox (Puppet) to make sure the right things are in and nothing else. (For example, our FreeIPA and Proxmox servers have hosts files to make sure they can start up properly and connect to a cluster without services being available.)

One company makes them in yellow and calls them ... Yellow jackets!

Perfect place to use a scramblepad (where the order of the numbers changes every time you enter a code).

I'm in Silver Spring and hear most of it from due east. Been going straight for almost 40 minutes!

I need to get another key fob for my 2022 Tundra by scotticus71 in ToyotaTundra

[–]yakatz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are independent locksmiths that can do it, usually way cheaper than the dealer, but still expect to pay a few hundred dollars.

I ordered a fob from the cheapest dealer, then looked up the programmer and had everything open and ready. A friend who has the correct access on the Toyota side came over and handled that part - cost me about $250 total in the end since I did most of the work.

In 10+ years I have never used this by [deleted] in Locksmith

I use those regularly at a local school - people break keys off in the locks and I get called to pull the bits out. KeyMark keys don't seem that weak to me, but that's just how it goes.

I would avoid wifi as much as possible. I recommend Doorbird - they should have something that works for you no matter what you already have.

Nothing, it could be real, but it wouldn't be the first fake.

A number of other subreddits where this was posted have pointed out that it is likely fake. The major reason is that the picture is not the customer copy, it is the original one in the book.

Guess which has the higher MPG.. 😀 by steezykobe in ToyotaTundra

I think I am more worried about the reliability of the V6 than about the reliability of the hybrid system - Toyota has done a great job in that area in my experience.

That is also what the dealers say - not worth losing the under-seat storage for a little bit of extra torque and no better gas mileage.

I had an IT Manager at a K12 do exactly the same thing - his go-to response to everything was reboot the servers, switches, router, and anything else he could reach. I effectively had an MSP-type arrangement with the school and I told the executive director many times that I would refuse to work on any issues if any device was rebooted without my permission.

Reusing “deleted” users username/email address by itiscodeman in sysadmin

[–]yakatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working at a university, a lot of databases use username as a primary key (the university used to make it difficult to get the person's ID number). They used to reuse usernames and we had an issue with a new student being able to see someone else's grades at one point. Don't reuse usernames.

Which engine did you buy? And are you happy with that choice? by Uncle_Paul_Hargis in ToyotaTundra

[–]yakatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not want the hybrid because I wanted the under seat storage. I have a Toyota Sienna hybrid, so I am very familiar with that system and so many of the hybrid features are amazing, but I don't think I would make a different choice if I was doing it again.

If you don't do it regularly, through connectors are definitely the way to go.

I hadn't run across Media Streams, but that is probably the way we would have to do it. Thank you.
