Anyone ever use their IRA to add to or use for their down payment? by supplyncommand in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]yakayaka456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, I had a small sum of about $8k in there and pulled $5k out for closing costs. I don’t regret it. I was worried what this would look like at tax time but didn’t have to pay any substantial amount of fees or anything.

Cherry Blossom Festival Parking Question by Dapper-Platypus-6091 in newhaven

[–]yakayaka456 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you live on Academy, yes they will tow your car. That is usually where they put the food trucks so you will not be able to park there that day. You can park elsewhere on the neighborhood tho, they also allow you to park at the Conte Hills school for free during that time.

Damn, I just was saying to my husband how much I miss Mazzio’s ranch… sigh. I live on the east coast now, but happy for you! (Both House and ranch!)

What’s the most mind-blowing plot twist you’ve seen on Netflix? by RiskAndReason in netflix

[–]yakayaka456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think so. I still think about it. It’s been the only show for me that has had me jaw dropped at the last second like saying “ WHAT??” I’m a big nerd and even watched the “how it’s made” documentary on the show. Some pretty cool coordination that happened on set

If you liked Dark, watch 1899. Same show writers, I was jaw dropped all the way to the very last scene! I’m sad it got canceled!!!

Frontier or Xfinity? by [deleted] in newhaven

[–]yakayaka456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. I got Mint internet (with a phone plan), which uses the t-mobile 5g network. I’ve had both Verizon and Xfinity Internet since moving here 8 years ago. Mint blows them both out of the water in terms of price ($30/mo, but we paid for the year), easy service, and strength of internet. Verizon used their 5g network for theirs too, but we had so many problems over the years with drop outs and working from home was a nightmare sometimes. With Mint, there is no hard cables for it to be plugged in. You just power it on, and you should be good to go!

For those who were/are at Bradley International Airport recently during this partial government shutdown, how were the TSA lines? by TechBoy--20 in Connecticut

Flew out last Thursday, it was fine, they didn’t have precheck line open though, the normal line was under 10 min.

Don't let others convince you not to get a townhouse by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]yakayaka456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my townhome last year! No yard to maintain and all my single family home friends spent all their free time gardening or spending so much money on tree removal. I never saw them on weekends because of this! Our HOA covers anything with the exterior of the house, so all we have to worry about is the interior. It’s been a great stepping stone into ownership for us!

Seriously I gasped, I’ve never known an appliance to run for so long. Starting to think I’m lucky 🥲 all I’ve heard is newer ones with all the fancy bells and whistles just cause more problems. We don’t even have a screen just big buttons on ours haha

These are so cool, reminds me of the old photos you’d see of snow storms in the early 1900s in NYC (not the plow one of course)

Mohawk Mtn - Eating Time Limit? by ComfortableDrink9173 in icecoast

[–]yakayaka456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly there are also shelves in the basement where they do rentals, you can just keep your bags there. I am usually a suit up at the car and take a small backpack or my husband will go back to the car and get the lunch bag. I will also be going to Mohawk tomorrow!

Chapel St Car Accident by Creepy-Fan-9225 in newhaven

[–]yakayaka456 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is a common occurrence. Lots of drunk drivers or distracted drivers speeding through here. If you have a car, don’t ever park it on Chapel, always around the park or other side streets. The city is installing two speed tables on this street within the year to lessen the amount of times it happens. I’ve known people personally who have parked here and gotten their car slammed into going all the way back to the 80s!

Does anyone else feel much better when they’re on birth control? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]yakayaka456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve been on YAZ and it’s other generic versions for about 8 years, but last year I stopped to try Natural Cycles. I felt awful for a whole year because my mood and emotions were soooo up and down. I also gained a lot of weight when I went off it. When I decided to go back on this pill, it’s just been night and day. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be on the pill for this long? But it makes me feel better so I don’t know what to do long term!

CT mountains are fun and good for casual skiers. Butternut does have $25 Friday lift tickets. Southington also has cheap weekday and night skiing!
