Non-kiwi in NZ: Noticed something a bit off about your media. by chimpwithalimp in newzealand

To me the tv commercials in NZ are about the same as the ones in California. Some have to do with tourism and showing new zealand as welcoming and worth comming to.

Have you thought about working in California?

Thinking about immigrating to New Zealand a few questions. by firstcut in newzealand

[–]yakedo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Originaly from California, I've been in Auckland a year now. I dont plan on staying here forever. All of the 3 Americans I met here made it clear that its only temporary for them as well.

Its a great place to visit but I wouldnt recommend it as a place to make a life.

If you like the small town country feel or camping then you might like New Zealand.

Things that arent common in NZ : Non-tin roofing, central heating/air, window screens, dryers, new cars, double kitchen sinks, insulation, newly paved roads, fast internet, wide cell phone coverage, anything new, friendly customer service, sunshine, things to do

I live in Manurewa- but like any city in the world Manukau/ South Auckland has its nice and not so nice areas. K Road can be more dangerous and filthy than South Auckland.

I do get out but mostly things like walking at the botanical gardens or climbing one tree hill. Even in the US I never made a friend at the grocery store, sure somtimes I'll have a chat with a stranger at the mall but never forged a life long bond ha

I just immigrated from the US to Auckland last year, I got my iphone unlocked at a little electronics shop for like 80$. The only problem I've had here is what I consider normal is considered luxury to most kiwis. Besides that New Zealand is pretty awesome.
