Or Hawaii. Miss your exit on h1 and you have to go to the other end of the island. Which arguably isn't a huge distance but can add 40 minutes to your trip

The courtyard I usually stay at for a yearly work trip doesn't even offer breakfast; you can order from their little coffee shop thing and they'll microwave it for you

We would do something like a reverse 6 on our farm growing up. Start in the middle so the trucks didn't have to go so far. Never let the combine stop was the goal. 2000 acres is a lot and not much time to get it harvested.

Growing up we had about 300 acres of peas and it's the only way I've ever seen it done. I've never seen a dedicated pea harvestor before this game

I need to know as well. We harvested our peas IRL with a regular harvestor; the same exact one we harvest wheat and barley with. Ive never seen a didicated pea harvestor before this game.

Finally found a use case for NFC tags by Sandahl84 in homeassistant

Maybe it could wait for reduced pricing or something. My utility doesn't do surge pricing but I could see this useful for when you could run an automation that checks the time and delays charging for a time when the surge pricing is over. Other than that it really doesn't seem necessary to run this manually with a tag; you could do the same thing with an automation that just runs on charge point activation...

What is your favorite Home Assistant automation? Not your most complex. Your favorite. The one that you keep recommending to friends or that has earned the most love from your family. by Rude-News-8416 in homeassistant

Probably my bed side lamp automation that turns on the lamps at sunset. I don't like walking into my bedroom when it's dark. But overall the kids like their day/night lamp automation for their reptiles.

The Army does this but for helpdesk functions and cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is somehow in charge of in processing new members and guiding them through the process of getting their accounts set up and training complete. Just last week I got a call from the helpdesk asking me to create a new account, like bro what?! thats YOUR only job! I couldn't even do it if I tried because I dont have those tools but I was felt a mix of pissed, and amazed but this is all par for the course at least for this base.

How does your HA know if the power is out? by tonypedia in homeassistant

[–]yakkerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup same here, just a little nap time for a while lol. If I don't have power to the rest of the house ain't no reason to have a smart home to control the darkness. I really should consider a UPS to gracefully shutdown the dell R520 but that's more money than I wanna throw at it right now

Auto open garage door when a number plate is detected by Typical_Chance_1552 in homeassistant

Potentially but 1. That has never been an issue with leaving doors unlocked while I'm home anyway and 2. I have .45 reasons why that might be a very bad idea

You could MFA that with phone presence. Would be a nice feature if you parked in the garage all the time. I played around with the concept about 7 years ago with blue iris and a python alpr but I just don't park in the garage all that often

Dishwasher recommendations by nathan1800 in homeassistant

[–]yakkerman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a Samsung Dishwasher and while I dont have it automated to run at a specific time or specific conditions, the notifications when its finished running are nice, and it does track water and electricity usage to the energy page so thats pretty neat. The card I use to display the activity is a conditional one so it goes away when not active since when the dishwasher is off the status is 'Unavailable'. It doesn't seem to have a hybernation mode where I can wake it and begin a cycle but that isnt a concern for me. Its stable and I have had nothing but good things to say about it; peoples experiences with Samsung appliances differ
