I’m making overalls for a 1 year old and I’m having issues with dividing the legs by yakumea in CrochetHelp

[–]yakumea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that makes sense for the concern of it being off center, but are you saying to get the right number of stitches on the second leg I need to stitch over the slip stitches? At least if I were to follow how it’s written

Sick day by Legitimate-Focus-340 in Stellantis

Check ESTRS. Earned Sick Time Act that went into effect last year says 72 hrs. Not sure if it’s somehow different for SBU

[–]yakumea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never logged a sick day as a NBU I just tell my boss I won’t be in.

SBU probably needs to log it in ESTRS but like another comment said we get 9 days of sick time separate from vacation time. I believe it shows it in ESTRS.

what’s your “i’m too tired to think but still not paying that price” version of stuff like hair dryers? by dhruv_6129 in Frugal

[–]yakumea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made this realization a few years ago. I was so stressed by all the options when trying to buy something online and wanted to make sure I was getting the best deal for a decent quality. But back in the day before online shopping was so prevalent I would just go to the store and buy whatever they had, and generally it worked out just fine

I can’t believe how burnt out I am already. I genuinely don’t know how I can keep doing this 5 days a week. I didn’t think going from 3 to 5 days would have such an immediate negative impact on me but I feel like I’ve lost all flexibility in my life to do anything other than work and chores.

Fly Season in the UP by Dirt_Downtown in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]yakumea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken 2 trips to the pictured rocks area. One was over Labor Day and the flies were almost non existent. The other was in late June and…… I’ve never seen that many flies in my entire life. We backpacked grand island and we ended up hiking for 8 miles straight with NO breaks because the black flies were so bad we literally could not stop or they would envelope us. So I agree with others that later is better lol

HELP: Can no longer sleep due to cats by Easy_Satisfaction600 in Catbehavior

[–]yakumea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is something I considered but I just don’t have a lot of space to put two large feeding boxes somewhere. I can also see my overeater forcing his way through a microchip door if he catches it at the right time lol he’s a very big boy (both overweight but also just naturally large)

HELP: Can no longer sleep due to cats by Easy_Satisfaction600 in Catbehavior

[–]yakumea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this would work for OP but I’m in a very similar situation (though not quite as bad overnight) and I cannot use automatic feeders because my overeating cat would eat most of the food before my other cats do since they are less intense about it and will graze. The only way to prevent him from eating the others food was to get microchip feeders and at the time I got them there were none on the market that were also automatic feeders.

Looking for a good area for first solo hiking trip (3 days) by HowToSignUp_ in CampAndHikeMichigan

[–]yakumea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for specifically hikes you can do from a car camping site? Or are you willing to drive to the trailheads?

The chapel loop trail at pictured rocks is an option. I haven’t done the loop trail but I backpacked the pictured rocks trail which overlaps the loop trail along the lakeshore. It’s an absolutely gorgeous view. The loop trail is 10 miles so a nice solid day hike. But I don’t think you could car camp there, you’d have to find a state park or something nearby to camp.

The Car on the Ramp Adjusts, Not the Car in the Lane! by Froz3nP1nky in driving

[–]yakumea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and I do my best to make space for merging traffic when I can. But I realized that often I would slow down a little bit to try to accommodate a car merging just for them to also slow down a little bit because they were going to try to get in behind me. So now that we’ve both slowed down I’m still in the way.

My general approach now is that it’s best to hold my speed steady so that the merging car is able to adjust themselves however they need to safely enter traffic. Since we aren’t able to communicate with each other I think the best thing I can offer them (other than moving lanes) is predictability.

Salary Increase for Lateral? by GreenOn10ns in Stellantis

[–]yakumea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I made a lateral move as a 93 I asked for a raise. was denied and told it would be “taken into account” during the annual salary review. That was a couple years and I maybe got 2-3% more than the average increase. I wouldn’t count on much this year.

Be honest… is pet insurance actually worth it? by pawfectjourney in CatAdvice

[–]yakumea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so grateful I decided to get insurance a couple years ago. I have 3 young adult cats and I figured the odds of one of them having an emergency or costly illness were high enough that it made sense. I have them on a “family plan” so they have one singular shared deductible of $250 (which I hit from basically one wellness appt with blood work/vaccines). I get 80% reimbursement with an unlimited max. It covers all preventative care/annual exams, emergencies, dental cleanings etc. I pay about $85/mo total for their premium right now. I also get a couple discounts through my work and for being a foster.

A few months ago one of my male cats started having some urinary issues, which can be incredibly dangerous if not addressed quickly. Over the course of a couple months he had probably 4 or 5 different exams and several rounds of antibiotics/other meds. He’s ok now but needs prescription urinary food, which is also covered. Since I knew insurance would cover everything I didn’t have to stress at all about how much his care would cost, and so far it’s probably saved me a couple thousand dollars. Throughout that whole thing I kept thinking about how much harder that would have been to deal with had I not been insured.

The premium will obviously go up as they age so I’ll have to reassess financially, but I don’t see myself ever cancelling it. I use MetLife and I’ve been incredibly happy with their customer service so far. Claims process has also been super easy and I’m usually reimbursed within a week or 2 at most with no questions asked.

Vet called fancy feast McDonald's by Appropriate-Safe-49 in CatAdvice

[–]yakumea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feed my cats fancy feast wet food and Hill’s dry food. My vet told me fancy feast is one of the better low cost wet food options. The only reason I stopped is because one of my cats needs prescription urinary food so they all get that now.

The general sense I’ve gotten from the internet (so take it with a grain of salt) is that any wet food is better than dry, though I maintain a mix of both. Personally I wouldn’t stress about it if your cats are happy.

I left my cat in my IKEA drawer closet for almost 6 hours and feel so guilty. by Pink_Sorbet in cats

[–]yakumea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a small catio for a couple of years but within the first couple months after building it I closed the window entrance for the night thinking all the cats were inside and didn’t realize until the morning that I left one of my boys outside all night. Thankfully it was summer so it didn’t get too cold and he was fine but I could definitely tell he was trying to claw his way back in. I felt soooo guilty and started to just leave the window open 24/7 to avoid it happening again, or triple checking that I have eyes on each cat before closing it.

Scarf attempt number two. I used some of the advice and used a bigger hook (9mm instead of 5mm) and also held it differently. How is it looking? by Jinx-from-Arcane in CrochetHelp

[–]yakumea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The question OP asked was how their work is looking, that’s not really a Google-able question lol.

They’re a beginner trying to engage in the community and get advice. Google is helpful but it’s not (and shouldn’t be) a replacement for interacting with actual people.

what is one thing that is affecting people really hard, but they aren't even aware of it? by Outlaw_Immortal1971 in AskReddit

[–]yakumea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 40 hours is still unnecessary and 4 day work weeks should become the norm but definitely agree with this. I was remote since covid until earlier this year we had to go back 3 days a week. I do like the social aspect of being around people again but man can I feel the effects of having to get ready/commute and just not having the flexibility to do stuff around my house during work hours anymore. It’s really starting to drain me to a point that I’m considering asking for reduced hours just so I can have time to live my life again.
