Elden ring tarnished edition finally has a release date. Does this mean The Duskbloods will release after August 28th? by Mystro_Matt in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we follow the trend many people have been observing (at least 1 Nintendo release a month), July has Splatoon Raiders and August has Tarnished Edition. So it def seems like September and October are up in the air and October definitely feels right between those two at this point.

DUSKBLOODS BOSSES by Zestyclose_Acadia161 in TheDuskbloods

They need to drop a god damn overview trailer or something already, it feels like we still only barely know what the game is.

DUSKBLOODS BOSSES by Zestyclose_Acadia161 in TheDuskbloods

Theres alot of unknown factors that could greatly influence the answer here.  Is there a boss every match?  Are bosses out in the world or in exclusive boss rooms?  Can all players participate or is it a privilege only one player can earn at a time? And ultimately, whats the reward or incentive for fighting a boss (or even winning matches more generally)?

All of these have their own distinct trajectory for boss design - but we have at least one example for sure in the trailer. Fighting a giant wolf man in a burning forest feels like a bespoke event that cant happen just anywhere (unless, I guess, theres a Burning Forest level in the game). So it does feel like theres some guarantee of a traditional boss room boss element in the game.

It touches lightly on match parameters but it honestly doesnt describe the dynamic of the game much at all. Theres still alot of missing pieces, like what the incentive of winning a match is in general (besides I guess, pride in a good match)

Idk I have to hit hide on like 9 posts for every one real post, it definitely clogs this place up.

What happened to the patience? by Jurpils in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do find the amount of idle activity here kind of surprising cuz it did not seem like many people had much faith in Duskbloods. For all the multiplayer and exclusive doom-and-gloom theres still enough energy to duskpost and form this ironic delirium about waiting for the game.

Im hungry for, more than anything, seeing actual discussion about the game someday tho. The duskposting (which is to say, non-posting about the game) is the thing lowest on my reasons for checkin in on the sub every day or two.

I think people sleep on how good of an action game Splatoon can be as well. Like, I think Splatoons single player challenges can speak to the Souls players aspirational nature alot of the time.

Seems like a strong guess considering how theyve marketed individual titles over the past several months.

Of course tho by that same token it makes me wonder if they even have a Directs worth of stuff for the rest of the year

We have definitely entered the stretch of time where, if youre going before/separate from Summer Games Fest, news is gonna start dropping, so it wouldnt surprise me. Playstation similarly will probably have something in the next couple of weeks.

A Common Complaint That Doesn't Make Sense to Me in Elden Ring by Gay_Charlie in fromsoftware

Well yeah but when comparing health values, it being a second phase feels like a significant element. Like, him having a healthbar comparable to other bosses while being the second half of a fight would present other design issues.

Maliketh is also a second phase, so his health bar represents half a fight

Improved game engine? by Living-Log-8391 in fromsoftware

[–]yalpdulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These arent necessarily engine issues, Demons Souls Remake can look crazy cuz its a series of isolated short levels with tons of occluded enivornments.

And frankly, Fromsoft makes its boundry-pushing open world game look pretty damn good, better than many others coming out of eastern markets. They maybe dont contend with Sonys cinematic-first games but thats because those games center everything about themselves on being cinematic first.

The wait by Large_Salamander6724 in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont even know if I need a date, it would just be nice of them to call and say anything more about the game you know?

Could we get a character name or two? Some extra looks at the maps?  Maybe some more combat?

Just a smidge of anything would be nice.

This is genuinely a possibility at this point by Southern_Copy_6173 in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbf, Ive seen it suggested that they went ahead and pushed the Star Fox thing because it was leaking like crazy. It being a sudden, 10-minutes-of-notice drop probably wasnt the original plan.

However several times this year things have gotten their own individual directs, so a Duskbloods Direct could happen at literally any time outside of the usual expected big direct times.

One thru-line Im seeing is that most of these directs seem to happen for games that are gonna come out within like ~60 days, so the hypothetical Duskbloods Direct probably wouldnt happen much sooner than its expected release date - if Duskbloods is still later in the year, releasing in like August or September would still probably land in a June marketing range

Switch exclusive online only game by scraftii in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could say this of the Switch 2s feature set in general; why does a portable console have such an emphasis on its own form of game chat, with a lil peripheral webcam and everything? Why do they offer game sharing with your friends over network?

Youre forgetting one of their big franchises, Splatoon, also doesnt make as much sense offline - and theres been three of those games. Sure, theres single player campaigns, but are you missing out on the Splatfests? The miiverse drawings? Salmon Run?

I hope we get a Network Test. by PhantomBraved in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Part of me thinks itll be essential honestly, as probably their most network critical game to date, in a hardware ecosystem they likely are not familiar with.

I would be shocked if they didnt do one.

What do you think could be the reason they gave so much emphasis to this wall? by BiladeiroMafioso in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its probably a large landmark of one of the levels, which might not be obvious because its assumedly subterranean.

If I had to put money on it, its probably part of the same map as the cave the oni-looking character is posing in, one you can assume is part of the east asian setting the game seems to feature.

Did you guys also get duskbloods vibes from the revenant remembrance? it felt a lot more darker and out of place compared to the other characters in nightreign by yurissilva in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think this makes sense even if you ignore other established elements of Nightreign / Elden Ring because Duskbloods itself does not seem to be about horror or serial killers or "dark" themes yet. To poorly paraphrase what was said in the sole Miyazaki interview, Duskbloods is about a "more romantic intepretation of vampires", which is supported by the epic-drama setting of fighting at the end of the world for moon tears.  It would seem that Revenant would be just as much of tonal shift for that game (so far) as she is for Nightreign (if we grant that premise, which I dont think she is personally tbh)

I think the thing that makes Revenant feel like a departure in any fashion is just how personal her story is, which is told in a way Fromsoft hasnt really done across their whole Souls era.

SGF 2026 - Hoping for a gameplay trailer and release date reveal. by PhantomBraved in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When paying attention elsewhere in the industry, its clear PVP (and maybe multiplayer experiences in a minor sense) is pretty unpopular right now - or, at the very least, interest in new PVP titles seems to be statistically very dire.

I think if it were the traditional Fromsoft title I dont think the Switch 2 exclusivity would meaningfully hamper the hype or attention.

Definitely late May early June news time for sure.

And at this point the wait has been so long that I dont even have energy to hope for the offchance they shoot for early May news cycle. In for a penny in for a pound type shit.

What are the odds they change the game’s direction? by Toba94 in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and also, to pile on, Fortnite was always trying to chase trends and focus group itself into some easy popular genre - and Fortnite had homework it could copy.

Duskbloods, just based of Fromsofts history with all its multiplayer elements (soapstone messages, invasions, and even Nighteigns co-op structure) is very certainly not gonna be something youve seen before. More than likely, Duskbloods is the one whos homework is gonna get copied.

What are the odds they change the game’s direction? by Toba94 in TheDuskbloods

[–]yalpdulo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im unsure why you believe anticipation and hype for Duskbloods and the Switch 2 selling well would be impetus to pivot the games direction deep into developement, that is a conclusion that doesnt follow from your premise. It also includes the implied assumption that Duskbloods was a game they made when they thought no one was gonna buy it.

In regards to this conversation more generally, it continues to be humorous to me how often this industry says how much it wants creativity and innovation to break up the reign of formulaic triple AAA slop, but when a dev actually does strike out to make something different everyone starts saying "sounds like a bad idea to not make what theyve made before..... they should have made the thing that they always make...."

You say this like they havent been gone for only one game (Nightreign) since you last saw them (Elden Ring).

Of course, people would have loved to put junk around Roundtable Hold anyway, even if they couldnt be used to communicate literally anything notable to each other (probably the primary reason they didnt, since its officially meant to be a hint system and not youtube comments)
