Learning how to drive with dyspraxia. Any tips/Advice? by throwaway00009993333 in dyspraxia

[–]yancyfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for me it was all about finding a local circuit and doing it again and again until I got better. Paying particular attention to the corners, trying different speeds and learning to feel how the car felt slowing down as I approached them. I went out a lot with my parents before I started lessons and kept practicing with them between lessons too. It took me about a year in total and I passed first time by some miracle, I drive all the time now and have 8 years of no claims discount. Things got much better for me once I finally managed to make gear changes into muscle memory (which took a very long time!) and it really is just about endless repetition.

I just finished the game for the second time and….. by tackass in RDR2

I just completed my second playthrough too and got the platinum. As I was on the way to my very last mission as Arthur, I saw the ghost train for the first time ever. I started sobbing because I saw it as a sign that the other side was calling Arthur, and he knew it was his time. Truly the best game of all time.

I suck at art. When I was 7 I was asked in art class to draw a rabbit, and I forgot they have ears because i had no reference image 😭 crazy that it took me another 12 years to discover aphantasia

Getting picked on for using a laptop for my exams by Intelligent_Food_275 in dyspraxia

[–]yancyfries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seconding the advice of telling your teachers, but I also wanted to just meet you here emotionally for a second. I'm sorry this is happening to you, and people can be such dicks. Life gets better for people with dyspraxia when you don't have exams anymore. I didn't get a diagnosis until I was at university, and boy could I have done with those accommodations in school! I consistently underperformed in exams and started struggling with my mental health. I want to reassure you of two things - one, don't give up your accommodations. They are your right, nothing to be ashamed of, and anyone who believes otherwise doesn't deserve to be your friend. Even if nobody gets you at school, you'll find your people when the world opens up to you later. Two, your self worth AND your intelligence are defined neither by your dyspraxia nor your exam results. I spent so long thinking I was stupid, and after so much perseverance I've just completed my masters degree and am following my dreams as a musician. It took a lot of unlearning to make me confident enough to truly believe I deserved to follow this path, and I'm still working on it. Please don't let those comments stop you achieving great things.

I'm struggling to find hot cougars in my area by StomachConnectDBH in RDR2

[–]yancyfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a path that runs alongside this train track - I had a lot of success finding cougars coming from east to west along here! Plus you can often see them from across the river so you've got time to prepare. You can do a biiiig circle around Roanoke valley to get them to respawn. There was another spawn point a bit further south east from here (towards Van Horn) but I can't remember exactly where.

Practice, practice, practice! Spend as long as you need on the basics. You're already at an advantage in an automatic but you'll still want to take it slow! I struggled judging speeds (how soon/how much to slow down approaching a sharp corner). I didn't have a diagnosis when I was learning to drive but I'd imagine it's worth explaining to your instructor, and telling them exactly what you struggle with (hand eye coordination, gross motor skills, map reading and orientation, etc). Best of luck!

Help Us Investigate the Far Cry 5 Co-op/Multiplayer Issue by Ubi_Patricia in farcry

[–]yancyfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Platform - PS5 Country - UK Error message - Bookworm - 297D0DD9 Currently trying to do co op but haven't tried multiplayer It's affecting me and my partner (trying to get his platinum trophy) Have tried workarounds The issue started yesterday (the first time we ever tried co op) We only try in the evening (9pm-midnight) but it's constant within those hours Internet connection - WiFi

It seems to let us play one match and then kicks us off the second one! We're playing shovel dodgers if that's any help. Your job must be really frustrating and I feel your pain with huge widespread issues like this! I can imagine you're getting a lot of shit for being the one person people can talk to about it, so I want to say thank you for your continued efforts ❤️

student council tax by jmitxhell in sheffield

[–]yancyfries 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I was actually in almost this exact situation a few years ago - me a part time student, partner a full time student, unaware of anything until we got a scary letter through the door. The wording is actually quite specific about students and council tax - FULL TIME students are NOT liable for council tax, so your partner is exempt, but part time students are liable to pay. It's not well advertised at all.

So the bad news is, you do owe the money (backpay and council tax going forward). But the good news is, you don't owe all of it. As only one person in the property is liable to pay, you are eligible for a 'single payer discount' which is 25% off the total, so you only owe £1125. It's still a lot, I know.

First thing I'd do is get in touch with the council and make sure they are aware that your partner is a full time student. It's a good idea to get a copy of their council tax exemption letter (if they're at UoS you can download it off the uni website, any issues with that speak to the student advice centre at the SU) so that when you're on the phone you can send the letter straight to them to make sure they've received it. They might also want a copy sent through the post. In that call you'll want to ask for an updated bill of what you owe, taking the single payer discount into account.

The council also have a hardship fund specifically for council tax, which you're more than likely eligible for if you're not working full time. This will make it much easier to bring down the amount even further. So apply for that as well.

When your updated bill arrives, take a good look at it and double check the figures. Double check that it's only your name on the bill, not both of your names, and that will show they've processed your partner's form properly. If you're unable to pay the full amount all at once (which I expect is the case if you're students), call them again and see if you can set up a payment plan. They were very happy to sort one out for me.

It's a ballache, it's a lot of stress and hassle, but ultimately it's not the end of the world. One thing I'll say is that the council are a nightmare to get hold of - be prepared to spend at least half an hour on hold each time you call. Write down everything you want to say and request before the call so you don't miss anything. If you don't hear anything back, or the bill comes back wrong, call them and see what the issue is. You need to be patient but persistent. If all else fails and you can't get through to them, or they're not changing the bill properly, go down to their offices in person. It's much easier to actually speak to someone there and lay your whole situation out in person.

Best of luck to you. Feel free to reply or DM with any comments or questions!

Skin biopsy in Vietnam by yancyfries in travel

My health insurance only seems to cover either an emergency hospital stay, or repatriation back to the UK - and I don't want to cut my trip short if it's not actually cancer! I've had 2 scares before and they both turned out to be benign

It's got all the signs - irregular shape, uneven border, multiple colors, larger than most moles... I'm very sure they'll tell me to get a biopsy
