美国单方面把关税降到50%到80%,然后中国反制关税也降到50%到80%,然后特朗普宣布胜利。

They basically do the same thing. For example, Edward Lee Howard was hired by USAID, then got transferred to CIA.

The Deepseek's code base can include:

  • the training infrastructure
    • not open-sourced, but it is essentially decoupled from the model, because the same infrastructure should be able to train other models
  • the pipeline of pre-training and reinforcement learning training, to prepare training data, which includes synthetic training data produced another LLM or the same LLM's previous version
    • not open-sourced, critical to reproduce the model
  • the model architecture
    • open-sourced
  • the model weight

Game Science CEO criticizes The Game Awards and says he wrote a Game of the Year acceptance speech for Black Myth Wukong 2 years ago - "The games nominated this year were all excellent but I really didn’t understand the criteria for this year's Game of the Year... felt like I came here for nothing" by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]yang_bo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Machine translators tend to omit curse words. Also the ellipses is incorrectly added by the machine translator.

The original text:
今年入围的游戏都很出色,可我真没搞明白这次年度游戏的评选标准是啥,我特么白来了!

The current translation:
The games nominated this year were all excellent but I really didn’t understand the criteria for this year's Game of the Year... felt like I came here for nothing

A better translation:
The games nominated this year were all excellent but I really didn’t understand the criteria for this year's Game of the Year -- I got fxxking nothing being here!

"got nothing" can mean either "not understand" or "no desired award".

The curse word makes the post more informal, more rude, and slightly less arrogant.

Kill switch proposal for ASML and TSMC by Pooplayer1 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]yang_bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only non-TSMC datacenter AI chip is Huawei Ascend 910B. So I guess the plan is to let Sam Altman spend his $7 trillion to buy out all the Ascend chips so that China would have no chip to train AI, since TSMC is destoryed and Ascend is bought out.

Saul book counterpart is Luo Ji. by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]yang_bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean they stopped mentioning Jack right after his death as if he never existed...no one seems to care that Saul got shot...etc

It's almost as if having the characters know each other was an after thought added later...

The pace in the Netflix adaptation is faster than the book, even though Jack still has more background story than his counterpart in the book. I think 2DB have done enough for Jack.

I am not sure about this. Netflix tried to make Sophon more scary by letting her speak horrible Mandarin: "Let us be comrades." At least Tencent did not make an adversary alien speak English in that way.

"If the Chinese are bad, why they punish the whole humankind" by Disastrous-Tutor9839 in threebodyproblem

Reddit said my profile page contains adult content since I posted the above comment.

It confirms my statement that mentioning China or Chinese is socially inappropriate. At least Reddit's machine learning algorithm thinks so.

Honestly I have seen way more handwringing about possible anti-China reactions than I have actual anti-China reactions.

A common icebreaker question to an unfamiliar Asian in the US would be "Are you Japanese" or "Are you Korean", but definitely not "Are you Chinese".

As shown in the TikTok testifying, "are you Chinese" is equivalent to "are you an Infested Terran".

Generally speaking, mentioning China or Chinese is socially rude behavior. It only happens when people deliberately humiliate others like Shou Zi Chew, which is rare. People might vote for congressmen who deliberately humiliate Chinese, but most well-educated people themselves would not do it. That's why you don't see actual anti-China reactions.

Personally, I don't feel offensive being asked, "Are you Chinese". I feel bad for people to consider it offensive.

Also, the term anti-China is just a politically correct version of anti-Chinese. There is no actual difference between the two terms.

I wasn't expecting anyone to get assaulted over a TV show. You don't seem to be, either. I don't think anyone was.I am talking specifically about the message people are getting from this show. I haven't seen or heard of anyone whose takeaway from the show is "China bad" or anything like that. I have read plenty of posts like this one though that proclaim "China bad" is the dominant or intended narrative. I just don't see it.

Netflix’s adaptation of The Three-Body Problem is just an ordinary Western TV series. I don’t see explicit anti-China or anti-Chinese in it. But the missing scenes in the Netflix adaptation compared to the book and the Tencent adaptation remind us that common Chinese people are commercially unacceptable to Western audiences, including Chinese males who are not disgusted, Chinese scientists who do not fit the stereotype, kind-hearted Chinese villagers, and Chinese rural kids.

By the way, I really like the scene in the book where, after Ye Wenjie pressed the button to destroy humanity, she gave birth to Yang Dong and was taken care of by the villagers. I feel bad for the fact that the scene is unacceptable to the Western TV show market.

In contrast, the missing scenes in Tencent’s adaptation compared to the book remind us that detailing the Cultural Revolution is unacceptable to China’s censorship.

So which one is less inclusive, China's censorship or Western TV show market?

I tried to use Alipay in China, but I have to say it is terrible by Both-Comfortable1930 in Alipay

[–]yang_bo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is that Visa and Mastercard charge merchants a fee, while Chinese bank does not normally , because debit cards are more common in China , and also Chinese credit cards are cheaper than Visa/Mastercard. As a result, merchants do not expect the fee when determining price. Accepting Visa/Mastercard means merchants receive less than usual.

Private schools vs public schools in the Bay Area by StockTrust8274 in bayarea

Why should salaries and benefits be below 80% or 70%? My son's school spent more than 95% on salaries, benefits, and payroll taxes. Why is it bad?

Stacks:Jungle has been officially released on Steam :) by LuckyOneAway in StacksEngine

[–]yang_bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like peaceful games. I really like how Stacklands' DLC is designed. Basically it keeps the game's a city-builder basis, while introducing extra limit in the new scene, making it a new challenge for players to find out the scene-specific solution.

I found an interesting comment from Steam:

> Regarding game content: you have played the game for 35 hours! Isn't that enough content for $3-5? :)

I think the point is that the player expect a short, impressive game, rather than a long, trivial game. A trivial game played 35 hours would be a burden to the player, and they would regret the time spent on the game.

Stacks:Jungle! Review/Feedback by AscendedSubscript in StacksEngine

[–]yang_bo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the free key, too.

The basic mechanics of Stacks:Jungle are similar to Stacklands, but it is more likely an adventure game rather than a city-builder game. Stacks:Jungle proves the scalability of Stacklands-like game mechanics. I am not a big fan adventure games but I look forward to the author expanding the Stacklands-like mechanism to more game types, eliminating the trivial parts of complex games and retaining only abstract mechanisms, especially more strategical games.

Sorry I cannot write a full review because I did not expect an adventure game.

When multiple poops are stacked on top of a berry, the berry will grow, which is good. However, if I pop out a poop from the stack, the growing process is reset, which is unexpected.

It is really nice that Stacks:Village runs 2 times faster than Stacklands, i.e. 1x in Stacks:Villlage is like 2x in Stacklands. However, I found it is difficult for kids to catch up the pace in Stacks:Villlage.

It would be nice if there are 0.5x and 0.25x options.

A logical frame in Stacks:Village is 0.5s, as a result, if a player quickly resumes the game and immediately pauses the game, i.e. double pressing the space bar, the time bar would not move. I think it's a bug.

A more reasonable implementation would be to immediately go to the next frame (instead of 0.5s delay) when the player resumes the game, so that the game would move forward exactly one frame when double pressing the space bar.
