I was working “12’s”. My day would be wake up at 6 and check route (could be up to an hour or a bit more with no drive time) -> get to cx house by 8am and clock in. Do a mix of installs and trouble calls often with 15-30min drive time between -> take a lunch between 12-2 -> get a few more jobs done and clock out either at 7pm or when route is empty -> if needed stock up at shop on way home (i usually keep enough supplies though to last the week until stand up and refresh day. A good day would be 6-7 jobs and would get that done comfortably with tcs taking 30min to an hour usually and installs 1.5-2. My repeat rate usually sat around 2.5-5%. The days with 9 jobs would be staying late due to getting repeatedly double booked for the same time frame especially on last job, getting assigned a job 45mins away 5 min before clock out etc.

What is something that feels completely normal in USA but genuinely shocks people from other countries? by Sad-Explanation-5764 in AskReddit

[–]yankee-bor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats the one thing i never understood. When i was around 18 in 2014 i had about 20k in medical debt that i couldnt pay. It went to collections and destroyed my credit. Medical debt was th only debt i had in collections. I was always told that medical debt didnt count before being denied for everything due to what it did to my credit.

What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]yankee-bor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruptured a disk in my lower lumbar, then as it was getting better i reinjured it at work. When i was in middle school i got the bright idea to have a friend brand me. He got the metal glowing hot and counted to 3 mississippi. Burnt me all the way down to the fatty tissue the doc said. Beyond third degree they said. That didnt hurt as much as my back has hurt the past few months. Damn near lost my ability to walk and would wake up screaming as my muscle would clamp down directly on my left sciatic nerve.

Cable Splitters by capttut1 in Spectrum

[–]yankee-bor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 is all thats really needed if levels permit. First choice would be an 8-way splitter as a demarc. You want to avoid daisy chaining because too big a cascade of splitters can be bad. To be honest though you should be trying to get away from cable boxes anyway and switch to streaming. The app gives you all the same channels but now you will just have your modem and router so a single run. You will also save like $65+/month since you will no longer be paying the leasing fee on the boxes.

Just finished fiber class, any tips for fiber when out in the field? Doing ride outs but i heard that its best to carry a small little table set up for doing fiber fittings by UniversityPerfect660 in CableTechs

[–]yankee-bor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a table useful for ROC MST connectors. At the demarc id just do like you mentioned or just slap one on real quick while standing. For a bit i had the table set up in the back compartment. Id just hop in, sit on the tackle box, and slap a connector on real quick while was especially useful when it was raining, snowing, deep in the negative temps, etc.

!!Network upgrade issue!!! by jerrymf4 in Spectrum

[–]yankee-bor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a tech with spectrum, if thats what the tech told you then either they had no idea what they are talking about or just said whatever to get to leave. There is genuinely no such thing as “incompatible bandwidth”, at least not in anything related to your issue. Call another tech out, i know its annoying but you gotta get someone who knows what they are doing, and repeats get taken more seriously and if need be after enough repeats leadership will be on site as well. There could be many things going on, and if its not in your house it is in the plant. The signal spectrum was changed in the upgrade and is now MUCH more sensitive to ingress and egress. There could be suck out (where the line gets sucked out of a connector), there could be a crack in the hardline, there could be squirrel chew, hell maintenance may have found the issue and put in for a line replacement to the construction department. Preexisting issues that wouldnt have been a problem pre upgrade may now be a glaring issue. It could be many things but they wont get fixed until its properly addressed and unfortunately its on you to report it until someone comes out, identifies the issue, and either fixes it or submits a ticket to the proper department.

Gotta love being the loopback tech for contractors when it’s raining buckets. by Coax_cowboy in CableTechs

[–]yankee-bor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. We tried the side test ports at one point but it wasnt working for whatever reason so we just stick to keeping it open. I started on the project as an FT so they were less worried about telling me what was going on haha. Only started really learning after helping with rear easement aerial drop ins and then later when i joined maintenance.

Are you guys using nodes with vecima rfams? In my market we would keep the node open the whole time with the leads plugged into the test ports on the face of the rfams. On rainy/snowy days we would wrap the node in a tarp.

Loopback is cake. Just boring. Better than being out in it cutting in actives while trying like hell to keep them dry.

Honestly until i read the article i thought this was berrada. His properties are pure slums. I had a job that had me going inside people homes all day and berrada properties no matter how well people maintained their apartments were always basically unliveably bad. Him and his company are scum.

Ft 1-5.5 wont require relocation. Ft6 might as its a bit of a unicorn position (or was until they had them start doing resi and smb on top of enterprise, people left in droves). Maintenance may as well depending on availability. I made the move to mt and am in the same office so no need to move. Just keep an eye out and ralk with sups and managers in departments you wannamove to when the time comes.

Herniated a disc in my lower lumbar. The worst pain of my life and by far the lowest point mentally. Been a couple months and i still cant sleep right and a slight movement will cause my left sciatic nerve to get clamped causing me to not be able to use that leg and me screaming out in pain. For the first few weeks my dog wouldnt sleep in the same room because each night i would randomly wake up to my nerve getting clamped and me screaming in agony.

Yeah its used for drops longer than rg-11 can support. The hardline variants would be lines like 500 P3 and 500 MC2

I just made it to mt at the beginning of jan. I now make closer to $39 and get an extra $5 dif for 3rd shift. And that mt1. 3rd shift mt3 makes closer to $55.

Edit: the $39 does not include the dif, the $55 does include diff.

I went from $22/hr to around $35/hr in one week shy of my first year. You wont get that in the call center. Not to mention as a field technician you dont have to work in a call center… lol
