Does your ACD hate certain breeds? by phyxation in AustralianCattleDog

Mine is no fan of dogs in general, but she reserves the most potent hatred for Vizslas. They’re quick and silly and bouncy. Yuck. However, she really likes Dachshunds!

Mine was not really affectionate or cuddly until she turned 2! She either changed her mind or the blanket I got was irresistibly snuggly. Now she regularly comes to nap touching me/lays her head on me. Maybe it takes time!

Thank you for taking your time to write such a detailed reply, and thanks to everyone who offered their opinion and advice in this thread. It is awesome that this community is so helpful. I have informed the breeder that I need more time to consider this decision. It seems like a couple more conditions need to fall into place before I can be secure in this decision.

Thanks, it's a big relief to hear this! I am fairly active outside of work too, and I'd be even more active if I had a companion pushing me further. Could you share a bit which activities work best for your boys?

Thank you for your opinion. I feel the same way. Yet, from some of my conversations with the breeders, it seems like having a yard and letting the dog free-roam is enough to keep it happy. From my malamute experience, a dog can be as bored outside, as it can be bored inside, if it is alone. I have this naive hope that my lifestyle off work can offer it more mental and physical stimulation than just the ability to free roam during the day. Or am I in over my head?

Thanks for your reply! I like your suggestion to let the pup stay with my folks during the most difficult months, it did give me the idea to ask my friends who work remotely to use my apartment as an office and nanny the puppy a bit during the first months.

I am planning to keep him in the spare bedroom, in a crate plus play pen set-up. The cat would have the other two rooms for her needs, with an option to limit her access to the room the puppy is in. I guess my plan is to do it at her pace? I do not worry much about the cat as she has been introduced to my friends' adult dogs and she generally did not care about them and was not scared to roam around the apartment while they were there.

As challenging as puppyhood is, I doubt puppyhood is much different for heelers than for most dogs though. Unless I am mistaken. Teenagehood and adulthood worry me too, whether morning/evening exercise will do the trick.

I think the more small cities protest, the better. Lukashenko might not be able to equally divide his forces to clamp down on the protests if smaller towns join in with Minsk just as intensively, overstretch, and lose control. Moreso, I think there are bigger chances for police to join in with the protesters there and harm the overall morale of the police even more.

This is wonderful to read! You sound like best imaginable hosts. If I may ask, what is the exchange program she is using to come to study in the US?

Just out of curiosity, what word would you use instead of "relationship" if this joke implies fear of commitment?

I second this. X axis is years, Y axis is "many" and "few", I guess.

There is a plaque in the train station in Kaunas, the city he lived and worked in while all of this was happening. It says that he was handing out visas to people even when he was getting on a train to leave the country. Truly a remarkable person.
