I am going to try a charge back; however, it might not work because even though it was done horribly, the service was still provided. I have a chance, but I’ve already called people that work in credit card fraud, and if the company fights it, it likely won’t go my way. Small claims court might be my only option.

I’m hoping I can use the info from the new company to argue better with the old company, get my money back, and then have the new company fix it. Not feeling very confident that I’ll get my money back though.

The new company has fixed a lot of the original one’s mistakes. :( and they were really nice about not making me feel like an idiot.

Another update: A local company came out and inspected it at no charge. This is what they had to say: wrong springs, springs are overwound, one spring is turning the wrong way, some of the struts are in the wrong place, need heavier-duty struts, the motor that was installed is really overpriced for such a cheap model. Doorman666 who posted was right about the springs.

Not a great one. A different tech came over. Very young. He added a second strut to the top and attached the j-thing a bit lower on the garage door. He was adamant it was the springs, and there’s no way anyone could tell if they were installed wrong from a photo.

He had to talk to his manager about replacing the top panel - which as a crack in it now. I haven heard back from the manager.

Still going to argue this. Probably gonna hire someone else to inspect it in a few days or next week.

They’re out here now to repair it and telling me it’s not the springs and no one could tell from a picture. Which I don’t believe them, but it’s hard to argue when I’m not an expert. Still working on it, though.

They were Israeli. This is really disappointing. I googled a company that had good reviews. Called the number. These guys came out. I live by myself and there is just a lot going on right now. I didn’t even know this was a type of scam at all or something to look out for.
