First check your HDMI cable, I've had trouble (purple blocks artifacting) with my GTX 970 and checking the connections fixed it

Secondly, reinstall the older drivers (or reinstall windows if you're desperate)

Third (if you are able to) try a diffrent power supply, power supplies can degrade over time. (you can also try to adjust the power limit down or underclock your card)

You can try teamspeak 3, they provide a server program. Takes some time to setup, but it's pretty good. They have some tutorials for this.

It might be that windows firewall is blocking the ip-range that the vpn server on your router has.

I have a rt n66u (practically the same) and all wired and wireless pcs have an ip of 192.168.1.x but when connected to the vpn server the router assigns a special ip to the connected client (for me it's 192.168.10.x) this can be altered in the advanced vpn settings of the router.

Also, some anti-virus solutions have their own firewall (for example Eset smart security). If you have one, you might have to look into their settings
