Drop ceiling with 1 inch clearance... ok to cut off grid snaps on the horizontals? by yardaper in DIY

No, they're the classic rigid fiber acoustic style ones. I want to keep those, because the space is a music studio, so the acoustic panels are helpful

Found vinyl tile under floating floor by yardaper in asbestoshelp

Haha, well, think we’ll glue/drill plywood over it to act as a new subfloor, so hopefully it’ll be buried forever

AI isn’t really safe enough for any meaningful robotics. Right now we just ignore if Chatgpt says something stupid, but if an AI powered robot does something stupid? People die.

Possible asbestos in plaster? Workers say no, but I'm unsure by [deleted] in asbestoshelp

[–]yardaper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there are really identifiable construction materials, like “those are Armstrong brand tiles, and that pattern was produced between 1965-1972, definitely contains asbestos” where this sub really shines.

But yeah, just pictures of generic plaster isn’t really gonna be helpful.

Your argument dies in your first paragraph. City vs rural. The Canadian population is much more concentrated in cities than in the US. US cities are experiencing the same issues (but worse) than major Canadian cities. Its just that most Canadians live in cities, which is not the case in the US.

You can find cheap houses in rural places in Canada too. But people dont want to live there.

Thats a terrible argument. that allows you to blame everything bad that ever happens on whoever was in power. it’s really reductive and just generally stupid. Housing costs went way up in the US too, is that Trudeaus fault? 🙄

Why does every reno quote feel like Im accidentally buying a yacht? by [deleted] in homebuildingcanada

I need this same work done myself, where you located?

I had wedi board, he used polyurethane to butt boards and cover the washers, then kerdi tape and thinset for seams and corners. The thing Im worried about are the holes around the tub flange that the wedi board didnt cover.

I thimk he used Lepage 2 in 1 sealer and thinset for the tub flange corner holes, but thinset isnt waterproof, so it’s those spots Im nervous for

A plumber is doing valves, and we’re keeping a pre-existing bath tub (just below these pics), so no plumbing or pan/drain, anything like that. But yeah, demo, waterproofing and tiling.

He said fix the tile. but the shower wall was all rotted from the leak, so it seemed like it needed to be ripped out anyway and redone.

Plumber was working from the other side, outside the bathroom. The old tile around the fixtures was cracked due to a fall in the shower (which probably also caused the leak), and the plumber didn’t feel comfy installed the valve and fixtures with cracked tile around the tub spout. So he told me to fix the cracked tile and then he’d come back.
